Hey guys,

I have a song that was written by the guys from Blessid Union of Souls and Pay The Girl combined, but neither ended up wanting to do it. If I want, we can take a shot at doing the song ourselves because neither of them are going to use it.

Please comment on anything about this song and if you think I should grab it while its available!

Thanks everyone!

Sounds like Greenday doing a Live cover (can't name the song, off Throwing Copper). A good song but the chorus reminds me of that Live tune.

hey mike...
listening right now....man sounds like a great song to me.
i know its a demo...but the harmonies on the chorus sound superb.....wish i wrote it..lol.
lyrics ...good...a few over done cliches..."wheels are spinnin ..im goin no where"....that kind stuff...
but over all a great song..

p.s...
havent really gotten to use the les paul to record much yet...but boy i sure dig just playin it......thanks again!!!!

ha ha..that guy from Green Day WISHES he could sing like Eliot Sloan, as a matter a fact so does the guy from Live!:)

Thanks guys,

Man, it depends, in my opinion. The recording kicks so much ass, it kinda' colors the tune. I'm thinking, that if I heard this with an average singer, and an average homerecording setup, I'd like it about average...but I wouldn't pay for it...if that makes any sense. Pay to record it, I mean. Are you talking about reserving it for an option fee, or are the guys just kinda' like, "whatever." I can't think of anything that would break my heart more than to see you do a totally kickass job with this tune, and then have to pay over royalties to the writer and the publisher. From what I can tell, you write material at least this good...frequently.

I'll say this...that recording totally kicks ass.

Fill in some of the blanks? Thanks,
Chris

That was recorded in the same studio I use for everything. Not my studio at home, but Jeff's studio. They who wrote the song will recieve credits and compensation for it. BUT- if we do it, I will be making a few lyric changes, so I will have part of that. If I can get the time next week we are going to track this with Mary and see how it turns out. All the other stuff will be the same, just swap Eliot for Mary. One thing is I know Eliot gave it a great performance, and has a voice that I really like.

I'm just looking for something to put us over the top. There are 3 bands in our group, and as of now WE are the 1 of the 3 who have not been signed to a major label. It gets a little disheartening sometimes, ya know? And I have liked this song from the first time I heard it and have wondered for a year now why both Pay The Girl and Blessid Union passed on using it themselves. That's why I wanted some opinions here.

Thanks!

Mike, I couldnt vote because the song doesnt suck, but i dont think you should record it......i agree with chrisharris that you write as good or better, and if you do record this and it does hit, youll always question yourself and your writing.....i think YOUR abilities got you to the point you are at now, on the verge of exploding, and you should continue to trust yourself and your songs....it seems you are at that point where naturally you are questioning why you havent hit yet....i think you know what you should do.....

MIKE

P.S. and if you every decide to do a cover, Gidge and chrisharris have tons of hits at your disposal....:D

Mike;

I like this tune. The Chorus is great and I like the combo of Acoustic/Electric Geetars.

Cya back at the Barn!

Blessings!!!

I like it... kinda "modern rock" crossed with Hoobastank. Reminded of The Smithereens, or something in the first verse.

The recording is nice; the loopy, almost jazzy feel is cool, and it's not something you hear on rock radio much.

That said... the second verse sounds a bit repetetive; should change up the instrumentation halfway thru it... it's just the same bass/guitar/voice thing for about 16 bars... each bar being the same (w/exception of the lyrics).

A decent lead guitar would help "fill out" the more "instrumental" parts. It sort of begs for overdubs, as is.

Nice recording. If it weren't for some of the repetetive riffing, it'd be a 5-star by my hand here. (that could be handled in many ways; just gave you some ideas here...)

BTW, IMO chrisharris meant (by "fill in some blanks") what was your recording setup/signal chain/etc...

This was all done in Digital Performer. The vocals were a Lawson L47 thru a Focusrite Red7. Guitars were Gibson LP Custom and custom GMP thru Pod, old Gibson acoustic micd with AT4033 thru Red7, drums are an Alesis D4. Thats pretty much it. Nothing too magical or special in any of the recording itself.

Thanks all for the comments:)

oh, and thanks gidge :) that really helps right now.

LIAR!! ;)

UPDATE

I listened to this several more times. I don't know if it's the tune or the performances or both, but that chorus just kills.

Good one

participant-

This is just my opinion, but I'll put my C-1 up against that L47 any time. I'm not a huge fan of the mic, myself.

Thanks,
H2H

this is a great song. and the singer nailed it. but the DRUMS SUCK! just kidding.

all the songs i've heard by you are just as good imo.

it sounds a little like you're looking to somehow associate with the magic thing that got these guys signed and maybe it's in this song somewhere? i don't know anything about the record biz but if you think this will get you closer to a deal, then do it. i mean, what have you got to lose anyway.

if i were to guess, i'd say the secret sauce here is the guy's voice.

again, your own songwriting stands tall in my opinion so maybe this will wind up as a B side song.

i'm bumping this cause that chorus is stuck in my head and i only listened to the song twice.....like two weeks ago!

so my vote is now a strong YES for putting this on your cd.

dang, it was gone when i got there. I was looking forward to listening to this one. I`ve really like your other stuff. :)

your back?

just wanted to make sure you know how much this is stuck in my head. still listening. i'd really like to hear you do it so i can figure out if it's just that guy's voice that slayed me or the song.
