Hey Im really new to recording and im looking to record guitar with some drums. Nothing fancy or expensive. I play metal and i already have Acoustica mix and mastering and their Beat craft. So what gear do i need to record from my amp to my computer. Whats the most basic setup? (and possibly the cheapest).

Gear: Randall 150 G3 stack, esp f 400, Acoustica Beatcraft and mixing.

There's 2 ways to record a guitar.

Direct.
You hook the guitar into whatever FX unit (if any) and then from the FX unit to the computer's sound card (on normal sound cards, it would be the Line-In jack).
If you didn't use an FX unit, there are software amp simulators around, but nothing as good as a real amp.

(Do not plug the output of your amp into the sound card! Unless the output is labelled "Line Out" and outputs a line-level signal. You can damage your amp and/or your sound card)

With a mic.
You hook you guitar into an amp. You put a mic in front of it. You hook the microphone into a preamp box. You hook the output of the preamp into the Line-In of your sound card.

Using a mic on a real amp is the best way to go.

How do you plan on doing the drums? Or are you also looking for a software/hardware drum machine?
