We need more information to help you out. What kind of music are you recording? What kind of equipment are you recording on? Will you be playing and recording each instrument by yourself, or are you recording a whole band? What specific brands of mics do you have?
A most basic setup for recording is simply one mic and a tape recorder. But if you are looking to record quality you will need a mic preamp to plug the mic in (with dual ins and outs if you are recording to stereo), a recorder that allows you to record four or more tracks (or you can record to your computer provided you have the memory, processing power, and RAM), and nearfield studio monitors. Mixing can be done on a separate outboard mixer, or through a computer. Finally, you'll need a separate component to record your mixes to, which can comprise of a cassette tape deck, DAT (not recommended), or a cd burner hooked up to your computer. All this and practice and patience too.
