Hello all

I have been playing with home recording for a couple of weeks now. I have only been doing very basic guitar and vocal recordings but I want more. I have been using Acoustic Labs Mixer software and a demo of N-Track. For input I have been using a middle-of-the-road vocal mic and the mic that came with my computer. The PC mic actually gives better quality dangled in front of my guitar amp than the vocal mic believe it or not. I have just been plugging these directly into the soundcard (Creative SB Live). I am looking to make the recordings a little more advanced (ie more than just guitar and vocal) and need a good place to start. any suggestions?

Thanks

Kev

This won't be the answer you want to hear...

MONITORS - Without decent ones, everything else don't mean squat.

SOUND CARD - M-Audio make a bunch of affordable and decent interfaces.

Once your signal chain is under control, then you'll know almost instinctively where to go next.

Hey massive master,
I'm also new to recording and am learning a lot from this forum. I am planning to make equipment purchases in the near future and have decided to go down the SIAB route rather than PC. I understand that good monitors are of great importance but haven't got a clue where to start. What would you recommend? I know this is a difficult question to answer and that there is a wide price/quality range. I'm looking for decent quality but not ridculously expensive. Would appreciate any suggestions. By the way at present I am undecided between the Boss 1600CD and the Yamaha AW16G. Thanks.

Try KRK V4s monitors....

they are not too expensive and are a good starter monitor...

I have a set and I like them...

Good luck
