I'm looking at creating a field recorder using a netbook, although I don't know that it will be technically possible. Audacity appears as though it's requirements will be satisfied by most netbooks I'm looking at.

Does anyone do this? Or does anyone have any recommendations on a lighter software?

Thanks

I picked up a Toshiba NB-205 last year for internet/writing (bought my son one to go to college and liked it so much I had to get one myself.) Upgraded it to 2Gb of ram. I have yet to find anything that won't run on it.

For kicks I tried recording on it and it working frighteningly good for basic projects...

I've been using Reaper (excellent DAW and cheap)
Try out the demo - which only has a 15second nag screen but is otherwise fully functional- and the pdf maual at www.reaper.fm
Well worth it and the personal license is only $60
(and the license covers both Mac and PC versions... you WILL be able to run the same projects on both computers.)

I've been using a M-Audio Keystation49usb keyboard and the Shortcircuit and SFZ samplers.
I recently got a Digitech RP-355 fx/guitar interface and it's working great, too....

So far it's looks like a perfect 'vacation DAW'.....

Great, that's exactly the answer I was looking for. Thanks!
