Whasup folks. This yo boy tone. I recently took all the foam and stuff out of my closet and returned the closet to it's original purpose! I've been thinking about recording in an open room so i can get more room between me and the mic. I know a couple of yall have acoustically treated rooms and i was just wondering what acoustic foam package did you buy? I saw a few packages on ebay,

Do you think these are good deals? Should i go back to the closet set up?

All i have now is 1 inch foam and i read on another site that 4 inch foam is better for vocals. I just want to be able to record in a good sounding room instead of a small space. What do yall do for computer noise? Thought about sticking the comp tower in the closet but it might overheat in there. Some sites recommend putting foam inside the tower but i'm thinking about fire hazards. Can yall help a brother out?

I use Auralex 2" foam to kill early reflections in my mixing/tracking room, it works good for me for that reason (I used small staples to hang them, nothing a coat of paint won't fix when I move) . I picked up 2 boxes of the roominator kit that comes with 32 2inch 1X1 pannels for 99.00 each at MF. I would also suggest the OC 703 rigid fiberglass method as well to catch some of that low end when your mixing, it is also a big help when tracking. For your PC, I wouldnt put it in the closet... You can get a quieter fan pretty cheap. A while back I used to set my PC outside of the room I was recording in and used a monitor extension cable along with a wireless keyboard and mouse.

Man. Everyone is talkin about this fiberglass. I have no clue where to get it but i want it!!! It must be good the way everyone talks about it. How much would i have to spend on 703 to treat the room and closet? Also, i don't have alot of dough and i was gonna get the foam package from foam factory. For 92 bucks i get 48 4inch wedge foam panels. Is that overkill for the closet booth? I'm looking for an improvement over the 1 inch foam that i have currently.

Whether you decide to purchase from us or not, avoid the Foam Factory at all cost. That stuff is basically worthless - that's why it's so cheap. The numbers they put up are 'estimates' on their part.

Ethan Winer did some testing against that stuff and it performed horribly. If you're going to do foam, stick with Auralex. If you want to save some money and DIY them, look at 703 fiberglass board or 4lb/8lb mineral wool.

and I did a search on the net to find the link..and you right here on the site...

goin to have to save that link for when i ready to do a room..

That fiberglass stuff sounds good but i have no clue how to make frames or non of that stuff you have to do. I'm trying to decide if i want to just get the aurelex stuff for $100 bucks, or see how i can use the fiberglass. I've been researching the fiberglass all day and it seems like i get more confused with each post. Can you cut me a deal? :)

The fiberglass is pretty cheap, depending how much you need. http://www.atsacoustics.com/item--Owens-Corning-703-Case-of-6--1004.html theres a link that sells it (didn't do too much research to find that link so it's probably cheaper elsewhere). I use both, if your only trying to pad a closet booth I'd go with the auralex. If your treating a mixing room/tracking room the fiberglass would be the way to go.

You can contact me and I can give you step by step instructions on how I built mine.

FWIW, I use a conbination of auralex and home made traps. I find they both have their uses.

I would NOT advocate the use of acoustic foam by itself. you will most certainly need traps of some sort.

Check your pm fraserhutch. If i could make 4 or more panels for at most 100 bucks, that would be great! I'm also looking at mineral wool.

As far as 703, exactly what is an average for how much each piece of 703 costs? I need to know how much it is for each panel so i will know how much i can buy. I think we have an spi in my area and i wanna get my stuff for a good price.

I could also use some help with this as i live in a college dorm with one cement and 3 sheetrock walls..... is there anything that I could do in here that wouldnt be perminent as far as treatment goes......

You could make those for less than that. I'll get to your PM in a bit.

I think you're talking about something different here - I'm talking about treating a room acoustically, which is not nearly the same as soundproofing it.

If that's not the case, let me know.

no i dont need to soundproof it.... i just wanted to know what i could do to make is sound better.....

here is the layout of the room.... mind you i only have one of those rooms so its not like i can use one for recording and one for mixing........
