Hey there, I've run into a problem a few hours before I'm supposed to start recording with a drummer friend of mine, and I'm wondering if you might be able to offer some quick suggestions. Here's the deal:

I was supposed to be borrowing a Sennheiser E602 to use for kick, but the guy who was supposed to be loaning it to me forgot and went out of town for the weekend.

I'm going to Guitar Center to pick up a mic stand in a little while, and I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas for a decent, sub-$100 kick mic. I've been thinking about the AT Pro-25, which sells for $80.

There's also the CAD KBM412 ($50) and the Nady DM70 ($50)

Unfortunately, I don't have any spare mics I can substitute for kick at the moment, so I'm really hoping to pick something up today. Any suggestions?

Do a search for kick mics and you will be flooded. If you just want to buy something that isnt expensive - Id say the ATM25/AT Pro 25 should be fine. Its not a bad choice anyways.

if everything else fails try a sm57, not the best option but...

Thanks, folks. Unfortunately, the Pro 25 is only available by special order at my local guitar, and they didn't have a single other kick mic in my price range, so I didn't get anything. Instead, I realized I wasn't going to be using my AT 3035, so I used that on kick. The results were not so hot. In fact, none of the drums sounds I got were very good....oh well, I now know that recording in a huge, echoey apartment with no carpet and nothing on the walls isn't really a great idea.

Thanks a ton for chiming in yesterday.....I still think I'm going to pick up either the ATM 25 or the Pro 25. They seem to pop up on Ebay pretty regularly.

I prefer the ATM25 over the Pro... and many times you can find the ATM25's for really cheap on ebay.

Electro Voice ND868, it will blow you away and not overly color the sound (like a D112 will).

Just please stay away from anything with Nady on it. The EV is what I use, and I love the sound. I have compared it to a beta 52 and the d112, and I chose the ev over both.
