anyone heard the Oktava ML19 Ribbon Microphone?????

just wonderin, if I don't hear anything about that then I will probly get a Beyer, just need to kind a dealer up here......

Thanks,

Sabith

Steve's should be able to order them.... but if not... Mother's music and also Long and McMquade........ Saved By Technology in Toronto....

Email Oktava and get their Canadian distributor list....

Don't foget Axis that I needed Canadian stores caues US conversion rates + duty are enough to kill a man..... plus at zzounds "zZounds only ships within the US at this time."

Thx for the help anyway =)

Naw....... I live in London....... so Steves TO based store is close enough(actually the only good store to goto cause London is a horrible town for recordin stores). Thx for the help...... I needed those other names cause Steves is the only store I had to buy from.... and I like to shop around

and whats your opinion on ribbon mics??? I'm a brass/strings/bag pipe player and I want a nice smooth, darker sound........ for those intruments, I don't really care much about vocals........... so I don't need this mic to be good on vocals......... plus why are all the ribbons I find hypercardiod???

Sabith

Hmmm... you got me there...

I've got no experience with ribbon mics at all... I do know that Bruce Swedien swears by his Royers.... that would be good enough for me!!!

Wish I could help ya more...

:D

beyer 160

I've got a Beyer 160...and it is pretty decent. It is a low output mic, like many of the other ribbon mics, I would suspect. Beyer states: "great for strings...blah, blah, blah." I have tried it on acoustic guitar, but prefer the condensors. I think the Beyer is good for strings because it doesn't bring out the "honk" on the fiddles...if you know what I mean. I may be guessing out my butt now, but the hypercardiod pattern, I think has a big nob on the back...almost like a figure 8, maybe 'cause it is kinda similar to a duel element condensor....like I said...I'm searchin"!! :-) I'm debating on selling it however...trying to make up my mind....since I use it rarely. Some swear by it on snare undersides too...I personally like one mic on the top...the 57...or even an AKG451 for the sizzzzzzz
