Right now I have the KRK RP5's and I just traded my AT4040 condenser for a KSM27 (second time i had this mic)...I like the ksm alot better on my voice. My tracks are sounding better already but I'm thinking I could get better sounding mixes with some better monitors. Maybe larger monitors would help? What monitors would u guys recommend in the $600-$700 range?

A few I was lookin into are

1. Tapco by Mackie S8 $500
2. KRK Rokit RP8 $500
3. M-Audio BX8A's $500
4. Event TR8XL $600
5. Event TR8 $500

Glad you got that KSM27 back!

QB how big is your room?

With a small untreated room some of the monitors with 8" drivers will cause more problems than help especially with bass build up. Your monitors are fine for now, you should invest in treating your room some so you can hear with the monitors you have. Chances are if you upgrade your monitors you really won't hear a MAJOR difference, if you get 8" then you'll notice more bass which would probably be trouble for you at this point.

Check into some of the Fiberglass bass traps, that way you won't have to hang them on your walls. You can store them in a closet and pull them out when your ready to record and mix. After you get your room treated, if you feel like your lacking in the low end add a sub. It'd be cheaper than dropping $650 on a new set of monitors for an untreated room. Just my opinion, I would hate to see you upgrade your monitors and still not be happy with what your hearing (especially with the way things on ebay have been going :D ).

I find that the Bx8's are really mid-heavy, which is weird
I know people that love their mackies, Tannoys, and Genelecs - maybe research those?

That's about all I can offer

I have the RP8s. When I was shopping around, I compared the RP5/6/8. I knocked off the 5s right away and ultimately decided I liked the 8s enough over the 6s to spend the extra money. They're not small though. I've been very happy with them. These days I just have them hooked up to a CD player and record player. I think I also compared the Alesis MkII Actives (and some others I don't remember).
