Maybe I can get a response in here:

Here's the basics:

I have a behringer mixer with connects going from the Main Out into the Ins on the EMU 0404 soundcard. I also have connections going from Stereo Aux Return into the Outs on the soundcard.
Im using Adobe Audition 2.0 to record. For some reason I can either get the program to record whats playing on the computer or I get it to record the sound thats going into the mic, but there is no music playing through the headphones or speakers.

Basically, what I want to do is to get the track already in Adobe Audition 2.0 (essentially the beat or instrumental) to play through the headphones which is also connected to the mixer while it records only what is being said into the mic.

How do I make this possible with patchmix?

Thanks a bunch for any help!

If you have any questions let me know, I tried to make it as clear as possible, but im new to this.

I'm not sure if I can help.

What model of behringer mixer do you have?
Did you follow the connection diagram in the manual? Your playback is going to the Aux Return which is probably not right. If your mixer has Tape In and Tape Out, I suggest you use those to connect to the 0404.

I haven't used Patchmix for a long time, so I might have this wrong. But....

You have to have a channel strip connected to the inputs of the 0404. You probably do. Then you can put an ASIO Send Insert in the channel strip to send the signal to Audition through an ASIO channel pair. In Audition, you have to select that ASIO channel for whatever track you're recording.

For playback of beats/instrumentals. In Patchmix, create a channel strip for ASIO Output Source and select a channel pair. Then in Audition, assign that ASIO Out pair to the master buss.

Try that and experiment a lot. Honestly, I thought I would be able to record with a mixer and the 0404 and eventually I felt it just couldn't do what I wanted. I returned my new mixer to the store and bought a firewire mixer. All problems solved.

Good luck,
