Need some help on purchasing a new pre-amp

Hello everyone (this is my first post here )

I recently bought a ART tube mp pre a few days ago for my AKG perception 420 microphone. I gave the pre-amp a try today and found it has terrible humming and hissing noise when increasing the gain. Anyway I think Im going to return it and buy a different one. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm only looking to spend around £100-150 on one as Im still a student!! Any suggestions on one would be great.

Have you checked out the m audio dmp 3 lots of people like it and its in your price bracket.
