Need some Guidance

I am currently getting out of my Electronic drums and back into my Gretsch Catalina Maple kit. I put new heads on them and got some new Sabian XS20 cymbals. I have a pretty beefy computer. What I want to do is record to my computer. What I need is some guidance. Do I get a mixer to go straight in to my machine or do I get some sort of sound card that will enable me to have at least 6-8 inputs for mics and then use a software based mixer on the computer? Are those prepack mics decent or just useless. As does anyone, Im looking for the best bang for the buck. I am really excited about this new project. Thanks so much for any help you could give me.

How many tracks do you wanna record? Do you want a minimal, raw, "indie" drum sound, or do you want mega-in-your-face 80's rock drums?

I'd say go for as many tracks as possible, mic every drum, and simply don't use what you don't want or need. It's better to have too much and not need it as opposed to really needing that floor tom mic'd and not having it.

Those pre-packaged mic deals are fine. Get your drums sounding good and pic a good spot in the room and go to town.

Also, if you haven't done so already, be sure to check out Greg's sticky thread at the top of the Drum and Percussion section. He gets great sounds out of his set up and his advice is invaluable.
