here's what i have:
master 16 track tape with track charts
ampex 456 tape
15 ips
dolby c
level 250
recorded on fostex e-16

track sheets in place, needing dumped to a digital format so i can remix via cakewalk, adobe audition, protools ~ whatever
I want to hear my music again ~ it's been 20 years... master tape has been siting in the original box since we recorded in 92....

I want to do my own remixing... i just want it in a format so i can load into an audio software and remix myself....

Please help or steer me to someone who might have the equipment to do this.
Will pay reasonable fees.

Thanks,
Blake

The most important thing is not to just grab an E16 off ebay. 1992 Ampex tape is liable to have become sticky, so you ideally need someone who's dealt with sticky tape before.
The good news is that it can be fixed relatively easily with a dehydrator, but with a unique master tape like that, it would be much less risky to find someone who has done this before.

not sticky

Unfortunately there’s no way to tell a tape has sticky-shed (a breakdown of the binder) until you run it on a machine. You can’t tell by looking at or feeling the tape. The most reliable way to tell though is when it was made. Since your recording was made in 1992 the tape is from no later than 1992. It would have to be 456 from 1995 and later to not be sticky. Best to have the tape treated with “Baking” before running it because running it with sticky-shed can permanently damage the tape and its contents.
