Need some advice...

I have recorded a full session(song) in Cool Edit Pro at 16bit. I just recieved the Darla 24 bit card and box.(After returning the piece of crap Lexicon Core2) I was wondering if I should mixdown and master in 24 bit. Then dither down to 16 b4 burning to cd? I'm asking cuz I know that any processing done to a .wav will degrade the sound a little, will the 24 bit help with mastering?..since I recorded it in 16 bit?

I also use Cool Edit Pro, I just leave everything at 16-bit. I figure what I hear is what I'll get. Just record in 16-bit, select all tracks, and click the mix down button. I think it works pretty good. I plain on tring to record some tracks in 24-bit and convert it to 16-bit to see if I tell a difference. The mp3's that I have in the MP3 Mixing Clinic have all been done as I described above with the "16-bit all the way" mixing.
 
Thats totally what Id do.. leave them all at 16-bit, and MIX DOWN to a 32-bit file... that way all the added shite from your volume envelopes and panning and all that will stay true, and you'll have a nice file to master. It wont help if you plan on editing individual tracks, though.

Why not record in 24 bit if you can? Wouldn't you want the highest resolution you can get for recording?
 
You are correct brokenwindow, for optimum results record all tracks @ 24-bit. When you have a mix you are comfortable with, convert to 16-bit for finalising. Since your new Darla records 24-bit - use it!
