Ok so i recently purchased a view items to start a home recording setup, this is what i got:
Roland VS 840 GX
Iomega Zip drive
Acer Laptop
Condenser Mic and Pop Filter
Visionik Speakers
Tascam US 144 MKII
Sonar 6 Producer edition
cubase le5
sony mdr headphones
Takamine acoustic electric
hohner harmonicas
oscar schmidtt electric mandolin
Now that i have some stuff i looking for help on what else i need and how to link this all together, so here are some specific questions i have:
1. Can i use both the roland and tascam at the same time?
2. How do i hook up the speakers, they use speaker wire so is there a cord that is a jack, usb, or stereo input on one end that turns into speaker wire on the other or do i have to doctor a cord to make that work.
2a. Should i hook up the speakers to the laptop and the laptop to the roland, or to the roland and the roland to the laptop
3. All im looking to record is the guitar, vocals, mando, harmonica, and then i want to add drums somehow(how do i?) and synth sounds for backround ambience but with a beat to it.
4. What other essential items am i missing in my setup and what is the best way to link this all together, laptop-roland-speakers-mics-zip drive
I can't think of anything else at the moment, I am a complete noob to recording so all the help i can get is greatly appreciated, I'm losing my job in a month so until i find a new one i'll be spending everyday trying to get this setup up and running. I'm planning on building a small sound proof room with a 2 x 4 frame, plywood or fiber board walls, with foam on the inside( Is this a good i idea, it will be in my basement)
Anyway thank you and let me know what you think
