Hey.

Im using an E-MU 1616 Audio Console which runs through its DSP chip into the PCMCIA slot in my laptop.

The laptop is a Dell Latitude D600.

From the audio console Im connecting a Behringer ADA8000 using the ADAT feature.

The problem is, when I went to record our drummers kit yesterday, the computer lagged uncontrollably when the ADA8000 was turned on. I could see it reading the signal appropriately, but the lag was for about 3 seconds, and then 1 second of no lag intermittantly and so forth.

It seems to me that is a problem with my laptop, either not enough RAM or what not, but I cant be too sure.

If anyone has any knowledge or advice about this, please respond.

Thanks for your time.

first make sure all of that crap in your control bar is closed. make sure the ADA clock is set to run off of the EMU. you might have to use a different cable for that.

I have to disagree with FALKEN on the clock. Any time you're making a digtal transfer, as in from the ADA8000 via ADAT lightpipe to the computer, the RECEIVING device must slave to the incoming data. Transmitting device is the master clock and the receiving device is the slave. External word clock is something else all together and not what's involved here. Your software recorder should be set to slave to ADAT clock. The sampling rates and bit depth settings should also match.

I believe the only option (on the ADA8000) that will allow the data to be transferred to the E-MU console and into the computer, is using the ADAT IN which is a SLAVE.

The other SLAVE option is the WC IN which requires a cable to be connected to the SYNC, but im not sure how or if that would work in this setup.

and the 2 MASTER options are 48 kHz and 44.1 kHz, but there are no signs of signal coming into the computer when those are put on.
