just purchased a sm86 mic. i have it hooke in to the phntom in the "input" and a female-xlr to the "output" going to the DMP3 preamp. Then i have the monster cable hooked from the preamp to the computer(not in the interface though)

Do i need a MAudio Delta 66 Audio Interface to hear the mic?

alltogether i have

a preamp

xlr-xlr cable
female xlr cable
power phantom
and a monster studio link cable

I'm assuming your PC has a built-in soundcard (probably on the mobo). You just need a Y-adapter to get the two outputs of the DMP3 into a single 1/8" TRS cable (two black lines on the plug) which will plug into the LINE input on the soundcard (NOT the mic input) You will then need to setup your recording software so that it records each channel as a mono track. Forget about Left and Right inputs. You have two MONO inputs from each of the two channels on the preamp. The Delta 66 will be an improvement over whatever you have now, but hold off until you get the hang of things. You may decide you need more than 4 (or 6 if you count the 66's digital input) inputs. Good luck!

where can i get the y-adaptor and i have a single 1/4" TRS cable. SO do i need to buy a single 1/8 cable instead. If so where can i get that too?

i will look at radioshack for all the wires and hopefully it wil work

When i hook everything up with the y-adaptor i can hear the mike from the speakers but cant get it to record. i put the mic on the input but i dont get no sound. but when i put it in "mic" i can hear it but cant record. im using magix studio deluxe 2004.

If you hear the mic through the speakers then the input is working through the soundcard, check help in your recrording software, it probabaly needs something in the setup corrected. I don't know that software exactly, but you have been successful in hookin gup the mic/preamp to the comp!

Daav.

thanks for all yall help i got it to work in the input. i had to go to the master volume and instead of reacording from mic i record from input/2 instead of input. so everything is working.

i have one more problem. I cant hear anything from the right speaker.
