HELP!!!!

I'm using CoolEdit Pro 2.0 and I have a Triton LE. I've connected the Triton to my soundcard (Muse 5.1 surround) through the Midi/Gameport connector, yet CoolEdit doesn't seem to receive any Midi signals when I play the keyboard... I don't get it.

I know it's hooked up correctly, as far as the Midi cables are concerned. I have toggled the Midi controllers in CoolEdit to test each one to see if it will receive the signals, but I get nothing...

I'm new to the world of Midi, so I must have something wrong somewhere. Can anyone help?

I can take screenshots off my PC, and some digital pics of the Keyboard/PC setup if need be... I just need help.

Thanks.

cooledit pro isn't exactely a midi sequencer, m8

if you wanna record midi i suggest you get something similar to cubase or cakewalk... or even digital ochestrator...

if you wanna record sound, you'll need to record via the audio cards line ins from the tritons outputs...

I realize that homie, I'm not trying to use it as such...

I use the triton studio as the sequencer, I only want Cool Edit to recieve the Midi signal, so I can drop my beats down, track by track, and use Cool Edit as a mixer. I can do it by recording through the line input, but chances are, it will beat off on timing. I want to utilize the Midi capabilities, strictly for the MTC so I can assure the timing of the beat will stay intact.

You see what I mean?

Is it possible to do what I want? I tried making Cool Edit the slave, and the keyboard the Master but, I can't get Cool Edit to recognize the Midi Input. Which is weird... when I click on "Rec 1" in Cool Edit, Midi isn't even an option. But it is an option on "Out 1" so, I don't get it at all...

Can anyone help me?

I don't Cool Edit can do that...

I think the only way it generates TIME CODE is by playing midi files in SYNC with the tracks.....

You'd have to dump the midi data into a sequencer as a .mid, then load it into CEP and play back the file, and record the audio

Ask this in the CEP forum, you'll get more help I'd imagine

CEP has got nothing to do with midi, and midi has got nothing to do with CEP.....so CEP is not gonna recognize your triton MIDI signals....the only way to "drop your beats" into CEP is to use line out on your triton into line in on your soundcard and record the beats into CEP as an audio (.wav) file

Sen, that's not entirely true...

CEP 2.0 can play midi files to an external sound source so it can the recorded audio will be in SYNC. And actually, that little harmonizer thing gives you some basic sequencing...

And it can recieve midi data for shortcuts...so you can assign a key to your transport controls or whatnot

Do you use CEP 2.0? If so, check your manual, it's in there.

If not, don't discourage the man :)

Ok, this is possible.....I think

If the Triton can generate SMPTE code, then you can sync the playback to that

If you have a manual, its on page 333..if you don't, type in SMPTE sync in the electronic help section.

If the Triton cannot, you're gonna have to dump the data from the Triton as .mid files, then play them from CoolEdit, which will sync them up to whether you drop the .mid file

Peace,
Chris

PS- Checked out the website- good stuff....Im not much into HipHop, but you're doing your thing for the right Reason, and I wish you luck

Okay, so I need to read up on my triton, see if it'll generate SMPTE code. If so, I can use the Triton as the Master, and dump down to CoolEdit as the slave right?

If the Triton doesn't output SMPTE code, what Program could I get to dump down the .mid files? So I can open them in CE? Is there a share-ware program I could use? I had a studio friend tell me about a prog called Midi-Ox... he said it might help me out...? Any one heard of it?

I have ACID X-Press (the free crap) and I could get ACID Pro if needed... but I don't want to spend the money on it...lol.. would ACID receive the Midi signals?

Thanks for all the help Chris, really appreciated. Thanks for checking out my music too.

Nope, MIDI-OX won't cut it. You can try ANVIL Studio, which is completely free-ware....or others try looking here for some other options

Something like the FruityLoops, Sonar, or Cubase Demo could do this I imagine, and they're alot easier to work with the midi scoring studios.

Good Luck
Chris

it is like 20041.3 times more easy to use a sequencer... you can still use cooledit for recording and mixing...

True...but it could also be anywhere from 150 to 1000 dollars more expensive

I don't need a sequencer. The Triton "IS" a sequencer. I just need a Time sync option to drop beats off the Triton onto my PC.

Chriss is refering to a computer-based sequencer, I think- which might be the way you have to go, so you can make some .mid files of your tracks and have CEP play them

Yeah, I suppose so.

However, looking further into this... I've decided to just drop the beats manually through the Line-in input on my soundcard.

Reading up on some of the MIDI stuff, I've come to the conclusion that my $40.00 soundcard isn't quality enough to interpret the MIDI data, and playback the quality sound that the triton offers.

I suppose I'll need to pick up a better soundcard first. I found a nice Terratec card for under $200.00 which I believe would work well. I'm not going to invest more than that.. so Aardvark is out of the picture as far as I'm concerned.

Also... I need to pick up a Smartmedia card adapter for my PC, so I can download sounds for my Triton, and upload them on the keyboard itself. I hate these new drives, why couldn't they have stayed with the conventional 3.5 floppy drive...blah.

Thanks for all your help guys. I appreciate it.

you'll never find a soundcard with the same sounds as your triton, so playing it as midi files will sound like shit on your pc... best option is definitely to just record the line signal, and then save it as an mp3... (i gather you wanted to use midi for limited storage reasons??)
