Hello all. I'm new to these forums, as I was searching for an answer to my problem, perhaps you could assist me. I will list out all the items I have in my new little production studio, and maybe you could tell me what I have hooked up wrong. I'm not getting anything out of my monitors .

Here's what I have:

Behringer Xenyx 1622fx mixer
Marshall MXL v69 Mogami mic
E-MU 1212m soundcard in my computer
JBL Control 5 monitors
Crown XLS 202 amp

Software I use for radio production is Adobe Audition 3

Here's how I have it hooked up:

JBL control 5 monitors into Crown Amp
Crown Amp into Control Room Out on the mixing board
1/4" from Main Out on mixer to 1/4" Line In on E-MU card
1/4" from Line Out on E-MU card to 1/4" Line In 5/6 on mixer
mic into channel 1 of board

With this set up I can hear myself talk through my microphone through the JBL's, but I get no sound from the computer through the JBL's . It doesn't record in Adobe either. I'm assuming the brunt of the problem lies in my connection to and from my E-MU sound card. Not sure where I went wrong, but I'm frustrated. I'm not a IT guy, I'm just a on-air DJ for a local radio station who wants to be able to do some of my production work at home, lol. Please help! Thanks!

If you have not already done so you need to assign the input and output devices in the Adobe Audition software. Most likely your soundcard also has some type of routing control panel which needs to be set correctly. Also if you run the mixer outs to the soundcard and then run the soundcard outs back into a mixer channel you will create a feedback loop which will sound very unpleasant.

I've fixed the problem by routing the line out from my card to my amp, and I have a 1/4 " Y splitter for my 1/4" cables going from the channel insert 1 on the back of my mixer to the line in on my card. It works perfectly through Adobe Audtion now for recording and playback. I'm still stuck with not having any volume control through my mixing board's faders, I can only control the volume through the trim knob and the software program that came with my E-MU card (E-MU Patchmix DSP), and I'm not sure how else to do it so I can control the volume through my mixing board. Any tips would be helpful. Also, any pointers on settings for the E-MU Patchmix DSP that would hone in the performance of my gear would be much appreciated. Good news is, I finally have something I can work with though, for now. Thanks!

See if this works if nothing else does:

1 Route your incoming signal via the channel faders and the main outs to your interface.

2 Take your interface monitor output and connect it to the CD input of the mixer.

3 Switch the control room level to CD input.

4 Connect monitors to control room output.

This is one way of doing it, but there are probably others that avoid having to route back to your mixer. I'll give it some thought.

Press the button on the mixer's mic channel to route it to the sub outs only. Connect the sub outs to the soundcard inputs. Connect the soundcard outs to a stereo mixer channel input and route that to the main outs only. Connect the mixers main outs to the amp and monitor speakers. That gives you fader control for everything going in or coming out of the mixer.
