hey guys I'm needing some help as I'm getting the feeling my buys may have been a waste of time....

I was going to go the route of pc recording so bought 2 things one is an audio interface scarlet solo and the other is a boss br800 digital recorder...

the boss br800 is limited to 8 tracks unless bouncing and I remembered I used to use adobe audition years ago on a much less powerful pc with no issues.

I just installed adobe audition cc 2015 and having no luck.

I have my pc set to use the br800 as an input and output... so basically an audio interface.

within adobe audition I have it set for input br800 for recording tracks then the master outputting through the br800.

when I record my first track to adobes built in metronome track when I play it back they are out of sync...... then when I disable the metronome and record the second track to the first track and playback they are also out sync....

now I thought this happened when using the onboard sound card and using an audio interface would prevent this from happening as all sound in and out is processed by the boss br800 ? am I wrong ?

my cpu is a 3.90ghz with 8gb ram installed 6 gb useable with adobe audition.

any tips on how to configure my adobe audition to record and playback in sync? or is there a better program that won't cause this problem ?

thanks

Hiya mate, I don't know much about your BR800 but your Focusrite Scarlet Solo should be an ideal tool for the job. You seem to have a decent enough PC so using the Solo you shouldn't suffer any latency. What you record being out of synch with what you hear is normally what's called a latency issue.

Use this as your AI to plug your mic or guitar into (are you using a amp sim?). I don't use Adobe Audition so can't give you specific help - but if you're still having trouble try using Reaper - loads of guys on here have it and its great. Doesn't demand much of your PC, doesn't spam you and its cheap and easy to use.

Are you just gonna be layering guitar and vocal parts together? Or are you recording a live drum kit too?

Is the BR800 an interface, or a standalone digital recorder? You need a dedicated interface as JDOD explains if you don't want those latency/lag issues. If you end up with a proper interface, then you'll be able to multitrack without needing an external recorder.

You don't need both the Scarlett and the Boss! At least not for recording using your computer.

WHen you say 'out of synch' do you mean latency (a slight delay of what you are hearing played back to what's going in) or that the timing goes off as the song goes further along (if so, that's an internal clock issue - your computer/Audition clock vs the Boss clock).
