Hey fellas, I'm using an new ampeg bass amp, a godin bass, d-112 , beta 52 , sure sm57, at 4050/ stereo pair. I am looking for suggestions on placement, mike selection, anything to give me a nice thick but clear bass sound. Thankyou.

Personally I always D.I. electric bass for both live situations and recording. You do get a cleaner sound.

Do you have an active D.I?

Because if you do then you can use it to split the signal from the bass and send it to the recording device and the amp simultaneously.

Yes i do have di's available, I have used di's as well as pluging straight into a pre-amp, I'm just trying to do some different techniques on my current stuff. All tips are appreciated. Thankyou.

Sometimes I place a mic right in front of the right hand of the bassplayer, to catch some string and attack noise. It can really make the bass stand out in places and adds to the overal natural feel of the bass.
