definately! usually i try to setup a wall of amps and cabs that i have and that actually works pretty good as far as isolation goes. and like most of you (heard someone mention it here) I will track the basics/scratch DI only just to eleiminate any chance of bleed and then of course mic the amps when it coems time to record.
I still LOVE using a DI into Amp farm with that Soldano model. it just has this awesome midrange growl that cuts through anything.
OK, heres a mediocre mix of a song we're still working on that has the soldano emulation only, no amp...
again, it's not something I am posting to say WOW look at me, I am just saying here is a pretty cool tone that i struggle to get with amp alone and when someone comes in with their digitech pedal plugged into their crate, yeah i'll mic it but I have already tapped into his guitar alone well before it hits his piece of shit all in one digital effects box signal chain.
I can get a good tone quicker though if I did own a good 5150, soldano, MB, or even a real good marshall I would be spending mor time getting probably a better tone. But seriously, a 15 year old kid isnt going to have a good tone and unless he is a prodigy he is gonna suck to an extent so yeah, fck his amp. trust ME, the guy with hundreds of songs recorded. i always ask em... "how many times have you done this? well I have done it hundreds of times" and that shuts em up kinda quickly. but of course I have kuth when I say it.
as someone once said.. "the shittier someone is, the more protective they are of 'their sound'". ya want a quick in n out demo? let me drive. unless your fucking this goose.
but you are right... i told my freinds about this retarded thread and they said "home recording what?" personally i think it's a pretty cool forum that most of us didnt even know about so dont be so quick to point out our little panty raid on your slumber party. I am sure we'll be hanging out more.
wait... if a crate has tubes does that make it a good amp? and does that mean my sunn is a piece of shit because it has none?

in reality they should have an area set up for recording amps--big, small whatever --the best way to record though is to DI AND mic your amps --that way if there is a problem with the micing (if the performance was what you want and dont want to repeat again)
you can always send the signal back through your amp and remic it to correct any problems....as just one reason to DI---also DI correctly and remixed correctly can resolve any loss of signal strength problems
