need help on a mic pre

i have a steinberg mr816x audio interface my mic i used the most is a mojave 201 fet and a at4047 the pre amp in the interface is clean but dont have eq are comp i just bought a aphex 230 hate it going to send it back and get something else so im looking at this

i sing country music i have been trying to find the right unit if anyone could give me your input it would really be very appreciative thank you so very much
 
whats your budget? how many channels do you need at once. do you want eq and comp on it?
 
budget is 1500 yes i want eq and comp sorry i didnt add that thanks
 
Honestly... I'd try some plugin demos before spending the money for outboard EQ and Comp... especially if you're satisfied with the Yamaha pre in your interface. I've heard some good things about that Steinberg unit...

Even if you want to upgrade the Pre... I'd throw all your cash at that... the pre and the mic are the most critical pieces in getting the true "performance" into the box, where you can eq and compress to your hearts content later (non destructively)

And I'm also not a big fan of channel strips, I like all the components discrete to mix and match as needed. Anything that does it all, pretty much compromises on much of it.
