to all the tech - guys out there ??
can anybody help me ??
i recently purchased a
sennheiser mkh 406 p 48 mic,
which is said to be kinda neumann km 184, but even a bit smoother.
it´s running with phantom power as it´s the p48 version.
the connector is a 3-pin din type.
now what happened:
i used a din to xlr cable to test the mic and everything was running fine.
since that cable wasn´t mine, i bought the connectors and a cable today and i soldered my own din to xlr cable. not knowing, that you have to connect the weirs to different pins on the din connector, i made a mistake and connected all weirs to the same pins as on the xlr connector (1 - ground, 2 hot, 3 cold). unfortunately after that i looked up on the net, that the ground is on pin 2 at din connectors, 1 is hot, 3 is cold.
i run a test on the mic and i´m afraid i damaged it, sending the 48v to the wrong pin. now there´s almost no output on the mic.
does anyone have experience with that ?? can anyone tell me, if i damaged the mic (which i´m pretty sure of, but i don´t know how big the damage is) ... i´d love to use the mic, i´m so stupid i didn´t look up the pin connection before i finshed the cable and started the mic ...
i´d be greatful for any statements or any propositions ...
regards,
micha
