...And Justice For All
im going to be in the market for electronic drum set but am unsure which to get...

the first kit i ever played was a ludwig years and years ago...unfortunately i cannot have a real drumset in the apartment complex im in...they have already been raising hell about my geetar playing :)

any suggestions?

im looking at $1000 and under for a budget...

thanks

I'd look into getting a Roland SPD-20 multi-pad. Smaller footprint than a full electric kit and you've got kick and high-hat pedal inputs. Very portable. You can also Midi out into a sampler like a Roland 404 to open up a universe of new sounds. And when you have a full kit down the line, you can use this on the side as aux percussion, extra snares, etc.

Alesis DM5 Pro Kit. I have one myself. Absolutely fantastic for the price, fully adjustable triggers, volumes, good choice in sounds. The surge cymbals sound like real f-ing cymbals!

Downsides... Hi hat can skip a hit every once and a while. You have to hit drum pads pretty close to center for good response.

I did exactly what you are doing, I chose the Alesis and I'm satisfied. Any questions? :D

do you have the regular cymbals or the surge cymbals Anomaly?

i have looked at kits at sam ash but my one big hang up is the small size of the toms...

It would be worth your while to check this out...

http://simmonsdrums.net/sd9k/
It has all of the features you are looking for, and I find the triggers quite good. 4 toms, two crash, high hat, and a ride. Also the bass drum will accept a double bass. 40 pre programmed kits, with i think 900 or so samples to make your own with. Midi, etc.
Can be had for $1000. Should have one at your nearest GC, HOWEVER....
Please do not----not----not buy the sd5k or sd7k. I have heard terrible things about them and checked one out recently, the pads are atrotious plasticy things and don't look like they would last a week. the sd9k is a huge step up and for 1000 bones I have found it very reliable and a worthwile buy.

A couple of weeks ago I ordered the Alesis usb pro with surge cymbals. I recieved the DM5 model with surge. I set it up anyway just to see how it played. It's no Ert kit but then it only costs a tiny fraction of one their kits. The toms and snare are small but I did'nt find it a problem. It intergrated well with my pc drum software via midi. I had a lot of fun with it untill I had to take it down and send it back. I got the usb kit on Tuesday, I wont have time to set it up until the weekend.

I chose the usb kit over the module as I already have Superior Drummer 2 and Addictive Drums. Plus the cymbals on the module kit are not chokleable and only the snare and ride are dual zone. I did'nt like the hi hat controller so I got the Yamaha HH65

I have with the surge cymbals. Raven has a point with the chokable cymbals too.

The Simmons are chokable as well :D, and dual zone. Snare also features a rim trigger for rim shots.

i'm with alesis, but with the trigger I/O and whatever VST you want. you can then change VST, you get a continuous control hihat, blah blah blah. it's just good.
