Hey Friends,

Rap enthusiast here. Trying to do some mixing on Ableton and this is what I've got so far. Would really appreciate any feedback/advice. I've done the usual EQ cuts and boosts, compression, doubling tracks. I'm still hearing a bit of a muffled sound somewhere in the mix. Hoping to learn how to get that clear, wide vocal sound that still sits well in the mix.

Thanks!
Joseph

Hi Joseph,
Welcome to the forums!

It looks like your link didn't. Can you edit in a working link for us?

When it's up and running, I'll move the thread into the mp3 clinic. :)

Thanks for the heads up, I've edited the post to include the working link :)

No worries. Moving over to the clinic now. Should get more exposure there. :

Sorry, I had to turn it off at 0:15. The panning/depth thing was giving me a headache. I'd turn those effects way down if you want ppl to seriously listen to it.

Interesting sound. I like the uniqueness of the beat and piano. Never heard anyone use that sound.

Something about the mix needs a little more glue. The reverb on the vocals is clean and sheen. The backing tracks are all lo-fi with static. -Deliberately I am thinking. But on the sound stage it's like your voice is 2017 clean and the other stuff is 80s 8 bit. You could probably tie them together better somehow. Perhaps run a tape plug-in on the voice to try and get it some of that lo-fi feel of everything else.

Good luck!
