I just sold my AKG C3000 because I didnt like the sound that it captured from my Takamine acoustic. Now the question is what mic do I get that will produce a natural sound.

I want to spend around $500 on one.

Somebody already mentioned the Rode NTK and Ive been checking them out.

I will also be using the plug from my acoustic to have a stereo sound that I can play with in the mix.

I will also be using the mic for a classical guitar.

Any advice will be much appreciated :)

Thanks

Dude....

NTK!!!

Wanna hear it?

Drive yer @ss down here and I'll put you in my booth with it!

I guarantee you'll buy one after that!

Hee hee

What are you doing up so late :)

I should come down there and try it out.

I took the dog out for a jog in the forest preserve 2 days ago and my muffler fell off my car :( but im spending $500 on a mic ... I wonder if I have common sense :)

I'll see if my sister will let me use her car to go down there.
What times do you have available?

I'm on vacation from the regular job right now. :)

I just got back from seeing a band I recorded a demo for, and now they want to come over and do an entire album!
They said they wanted to come over next week sometime.

But for right now, I'm wide open.

Hit me with one of those "private message" things here.
I'll try my best to accomodate your schedule.

If I may but in for a moment fellas, I can't help noticing the original question mentioned recording an acoustic guitar. That's not something I would reach for a large diaphram condensor for first. No, I'd try a small diaphram condensor for that, such as MXL 603, Oktava MC012, etc. The 603's you could get a pair for $160. The MC012's you could get a pair for $300. And though I haven't tried them, I bet Rode makes some nice small diaphram condensors.

Not that you wouldn't love the NTK on some things, I'm sure. Sorry to interrupt.

I'm going to have to agree with Knownuttin on this one. Nothing against the ntk, because every time I've played with one it sounded reeeaallly nice and they're definitely better all-around mics than the small diaph condensers. But the oktava mc012 and Marshall 603s, to me, are at RNC level Performance-to-price ratio and accoustic guitar is what they do best.

By the way, Buck and JMar, count me in on this thing, too. :) What neighborhood do you live in, Buck? I'm in BUCKtown/Wicker Park.

And I'm going to chime in with props for the Elation KM201. This is, IMHO, the best microphone I've ever used on acoustic guitar, particularly classical guitar. It is less well known due to its limited distributioin in the US, but you get them form the Sound Room:

Actually, I use my NTK in conjunction with my NT-3, so I get the best of both worlds! ;)

Anyway, I'm on da Southside, chess... where the word "the" is pronounced "duh". :D

Send me a P/M, I'll show you my set-up and let you test stuff out if you'd like... no problem.

Oh, and since you're in Wicker Park, I suggest trying the steak sandwich at the Northside Cafe on Damen... it's awesome!

My vote is for the matched pair of MC012's. I have had my best results with those on acoustic than anything else. Pay the extra for output matching and go coincedent!- Richie
