What do you want, a cheap microphone, or an inexpensive mic that sounds decent?

Audio Technica used to make very inexpensive mics like the AT 832 which sounds decent.

I paid some $20 for them, but that was many years ago.

Let me give you some advice, get a job at the supermarket, or delivering the morning papers. Save your money and get a better mic.

You won't regret you did.

i used the carvin cm50 50.00 for a while live untill i purchased my sennheiser 845, and it was decent, especially for 50 bucks. it all depends on how much you want to spend, i purchases the senn for 95.00 and free shipping, and have on the spot compared it to the 58 and it spins circles...warmth, feedback(much better in this category), and just all around performance...its more comparable to the beta from sure, but if you want to check out the carvin mics, go to www.carvin.com

thats my .01 cents worth!

Audio-Technica MB4000: ~$69

This is, believe it or not, a really really good mic.
It's a very basic super-small-diaphram cardioid condensor with minimal electronics.
But it sounds very good. Works very well on guitar and vocals - generally quite a bit better than a 57 or 58, unless you have a high-end preamp.
