I have always used 456 with my TEAC 80-8, most recently from Quantegy. My search shows that they have none in stock. Gotta finish a project and I ran out. Where can I get 1/2 inch tape?

Thanks,
Wardo

I have been using RMGI 911 with good results as a replacement for 456 it is +6 and is very good.ATR is good also but RMGI sounds better to my ear subjective though.
Here is a spec sheet on it.

The place to buy well there are a few places out there .You can try Ebay but be careful. Here is a online retailer for new SM911.

RMGI-North America SM911 34220 Recording tape, 1/2" x 2500 ft on 10.5" metal reel | Full Compass

You can google sm911 vs 456 on Gearslutz there is a lot of conversation on tape there.

Hope this helps.

Yes, SM911 is intended as a drop-in replacement for 456. ATR would likely need the machine re-biased to work as intended.
