I've done some research and found a list of interfaces/software within my budget.

--line 6 toneport UX1 and 2($130-200) , Why does the UX2 have such lower ratings?

--M audio firewire audiophile ($160)

--Is protools Mbox worth the extra buck ($450)

--Tascam us 122 w/ cubase ($150)

--Lexicon omega studio w/ cubase ($299) seemed like the best buy w/ software, price, and good reviews.

--Presonus inspire 1394 w/ cubase ($200)

--Traction 2 software ($150)

--Cool edit pro 2 software ($250) Is this actually $100 better than the Traction 2?

It seems like what I'm going to end up buying is among this list of stuff. Please comment on the products (which you think are better than others)
thankyou

Protools is a big step up. Its also the industry standard brand. however i love my tascam us 122. I upgraded to Cubase se3.

It kinda depends upon what you want to do. If you're a minimalist figure it out and buy the least amount of equipment to do it. If you're a gear whore then think about tomorrow because what you buy today you may need to replace tomorrow.

How many channels do you need to record at once (or will you soon). If you will never be recording more than yourself, one or two channels (and no drumset, because you will want to have probabaly 4 jsut for drums or more downt he road) then those will be fine but for 300-400 and less used you can get up to 8 channels of 24 bit recording with 2 preamps built in most likely.

Daav

im diehard protools. i use digi002, my boss is getting an HD system and i told him i would work for free if i could use it (well...) but i dont think the mbox is worth it. m-audio (same company really..) makes much better stuff for less money.
