Narrowed it down, to these 2 pre's...HELP?!

Ok, I have narrowed it down to these 2 pre-amps.
Groove Tubes Viper $2,400.00
Crane Song Flamingo $2,650.00

I've heard the Viper has 50 different adjustments tonal wise, to help the mic get the best sound.
I've also heard Redman, and Missy Elliot use the Crane Song, and I like the sound they have.

Which would you suggest for rap production?
 
I have the Vipre and I really like it for vocals quite a bit!I've never used the Famingo..Im sure its nice also..I think Atlas has a new "demo" Vipre for a little cheaper than the going price.. www.atlasproaudio.com ..Wish I could afford a second..good luck in your search

Maybe it's just me . . . but I just don't know if I could bring myself to purchasing a piece of audio / rack gear called a "flamingo."

"Vipre," on the other hand . . . now that actually sounds kina' badass.

On one hand, you have this big, sleak, black thing with these gargantuan knobs on it that looks all mean and badass, and it's called : THE VIPRE ! !

And on the other, you have this little frilly gold thing called the "flamingo."

Which one would you choose as a stealth weapon? Yea, I know which one I'd be taking with me to battle.

If your doing rap cranesong flamingo faster and clearer then the vipre (from what i've read) not to mention you have the fat switch and iron switch lot of cool tones to play with. The guy who engineers for missy, redman etc. said its his new go to pre for rap (could be a reason why missy and red use it) but it doesn't take overs too great like other non tube/transformer based products but its rap so there shouldn't be so much dynamics in the first place.
 
You really are in a win/win situation deciding between a Viper and a Flamingo. The Viper has some really cool fetures and sounds really good. However, my vote is for the Cranesong. Dave Hill is a very respected designer and builder and ALL of the Crane Song stuff sounds awesome. I have not used the Flamingo yet, but have used the spider and the trakker before. Not only this, but with the Flamingo you get two channels of a unit that is currently in production. If I remember right, they may have discontinued the Viper (and I have actually heard that the first production run sounds better but I have no idea why or whether there is any truth to that), and the Viper is only one channel.
 
I'm not familiar with the Flamingo, but with all the flexibility of the adjustable parameters on the Vipre, it almost can be considered a channel strip!
You can make it become a de-esser, EQ, etc... all via the parameters. Plus being able to tweak performance for just about any mic you want to connect to it makes it one versatile unit!

Purchasing equipment is not always an easy thing, when you have to see things from both sides lol.
I WAS leaning twords the Flamingo, because rap is my bag, and it's pretty much all I record, apart from r&b (myself), however, with what said about the Viper, I believe that will be the pre I choose.
I'll try and test them out (rent) if possible, but I believe the Viper offers what I need.

im doing nu-metal/pop songs lookin for a mic pre myself, what a tube mic be a good idea? the vocals we're recording are airy and soemtiems bassy and soemtimes really hi, im not sure if i should get a tube mic pre or like a great river style mic pre and i wish i new the sound differences maybe someone can explain?
 
You need to audition the stuff to see if it is right for you, man. DJL just posted in Micland something about all pres color as do all mics. It is a matter of degree and combinations of many variables
