I'd use them for toms in a heart beat. You still need to mic the snare, cymbols and hi hat.

But how would they sound more natural because its not picking it up from the air like a microphone. It seems like the microphone would be the more natural thing and the pickups would sound unatural like pickups on a guitar or something.

Seems interesting though. How much are these things gonna cost i wonder?

You may not want to record with them but PA guys are gonna love these things.

i don't see how they could measure up to a mic..

reminds me of the fishman powerbridge for electric guitars.. they can advertise all day that it is an acoustic pickup and sounds just like an acoustic guitar.. but in practice theres a huge difference..

if its not directly picking up the sound of the stick thumping on the drum i don't trust it. how could the vibration of the drum itself convey all of the necessary .. fullness.
