Hello,

My question (which may belong in another column; sorry to any trouble, moderator folks) involves naming the tracks on a burnt CD-R. I am currently using Easy CD Creator 5 Basic, for those familiar with the program. My goal is to create a CD which not only faithfully reproduces the music but will register Track Names, Album Name, etc.. in a music player like Windows Media Player 7(rather than calling my tracks "Unknown Artist", "Unknown Album"). The easy CD software includes the ability to name tracks in the pre-burning stage but I've discovered that, no matter what options I choose, the end result is a burnt CD of Unknown Artist and 'Track 1' rather than the specifics I want.

My question then is:

1) Is there a way of getting the desired result with this software using a method I haven't discovered or is the software simply not designed to do it? If so, what software would allow me to name my tracks and produce a good quality burnt CD?

Just so you know, I want to know to produce an original music CD, not a pirate project.

I believe that there are actually two ways that this gets accomplished.

One is called CD-text. This is probably the method you are trying to use. However, this has to be supported by your software, your CD burner, and the CD player that is used to play it back. What may be happening is that possibly EZ CD Creator has this ability, but maybe your burner is not equipped to write CD-text. Check with your burner's manufacturer.

The other method uses an online database. I don't know much of the details behind this, except that basically when the CD is inserted your machine tries to find a match in an online database which then feeds back the artist and song title. I actually had one of my own CD's inserted which kept insisting I was the Mexican Tomato Factory (or some facsimile). :)
 
Thanks for the reply, Dachay2tnr. I'll be sure to find out what I can about my CD-RW drive and how it may relate to the problem. Since I am dealing with original music I produced, I'm not sure if the online database approach would work, short of giving out information online that I'd like to keep to myself for now. I'll let you know how I fare,

Nero will do it. Generally CDRW's that come with Nero have this capability.
