Hi guys,

I'm trying to set up a home recording studio at the moment. I have a basic understanding of how everything is supposed to work and connect and such. I've custom built a PC and got hold of a few DAW's to try out. I bought a new mic (SE X1) and have the M-Box 2 Mini for my audio interfacing. Now I am looking towards monitoring and wondering what is best for my needs and budget.

I am making hip hop music and mostly just recording vocals on pre mixed mp3 instrumentals and then just mixing the vocals into that but looking to produce some original beats in the future. I need a pair of monitors and 2 pairs of headphones. For the monitors I'm looking to pay max £240 and have been looking at the Alesis M1 Active Mk2 and the KRK RP5's. Not sure what headphones are best for monitoring but looking to pay max of £85 for each pair.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

If you're taking 'got hold of' as 'pirated' you're making an incorrect assumption! Pro Tools LE 8 came with my mbox 2 mini and I have the FL and Cubase demos ad I was told which DAW you use is based mainly on preference of features and user interface so I'm trying a few out first before settling.

Thanks for your input.

Then I apologize sir. The vagueness eluded to such. Reaper is another Daw that you could try for free as well. There are also many trial versions of others. I am not so sure which would be best for your application.

Peace,

Jimmy

I like the KRK's but it's mostly about personal preference with monitors. Never hears the Alesis monitors - but the KRK's are priced per speaker - the Alesis cost the same for a pair

i have the ikey 808v monitors... work great 4 me. i 2 am a home hip hip studio they suit the purpose well

I'll have a look at the 808v's. The KRK's are roughly same price for 2 as a pair or Alesis M1 Mk2's give or take £10, just wether or not the £10 is a bargain in terms of quality gained for very little money.

EDIT:

808's are out of my price range! Hahah. Would go well with colour scheme of the studio though :)
