MYKNM - A new take.

OK, hello all.

I've done this song before and I didn't really like the output of the mix. Even though, it was cool, it just didn't head in a direction I liked.

So I've redone all the guitars. New tones. New additions with more intervals and a reprisal per RayC comment.

Me likey. :cool:

The guitar at the beginning is a bit harsh considering the background. I like the spacey stuff. Its a good tune, pretty tight and well done. I am hearing some distortion?? Maybe its my headphones. :confused:

Oh, I think its fuzz guitar that sounds like distortion. The synth stuff is pretty darn cool. Good stuff. :cool:
 
A few changes from what I remember from the original version...
Nice synth in the beginning as a background.
Good tone on the guitar during first solo.
Excellent echo on the guitars when they come in heavy.
I would maybe up the synth that come in between the guitar chords.
The faster double bass part is fabulous - what is that voice that comes in at the end of the phrases?
Those lead tones are great throughout...couple different - one more bluesy and the other more metal....
Playing is great on all parts - lead, rhythm, bass/drums....
Other than that one synth part I'd raise, I like the overall mix that you've done on this...

Sounding pretty good to me...the rhythm guitar could maybe use a bit of top end, to make it fuller, but that's a small nit. It's sounding very cohesive now.
 
DavidK - Thanks for listening. I appreciate it very much. :) The guitar in the beginning is slightly dirty so it does have some distortion. I was trying for a more stadium jam as opposed to a space rock feel. :)

Now if I can add some high caliber strings in there.... :D Hehe, I wouldn't know how to EQ that actually. I've been thinking of doing a piece with some strings.

Dogman - Thanks for listening man. I appreciate it. :) The rhythm could use a little high? I guess that would be the heavier echoing one...? Or are you just saying the rhythm guitars as a whole could use some high?


I noticed during the fast piece the lower octave guitar sounds very choppy. It was actually muted but now I'm thinking I'd go back and play it unmuted.

And hopefully the drums don't sound too fake now.

Yes - that's the section I'm referring to.... you're right - it might take it in another direction if you bring the synth up... Anyway, I do like the arrangement using the heavy guitars and the synth in between.

The whole tune has this great type of orchestration....

What you really need is a mellotron :D . A mellotron would kick sweet ass at the beginning. Listen to "Watcher of the Skies" by genesis, the beginning. I dont know where to get a software equal but that would sound great on this.
 
OK, I fixed a lot of the noise in the beginning. Why didn't you guys mention it? The extra drums hits in the beginning and some noise from one of the rhythm tracks.

Anyhoo, fixed that. Removed some highs from the intro guitar so it's not too harsh now. Lowered a little also. :)

Also removed some highs from the solo guitar around 3:50 mark.

Retracked the fast lower octave guitar without muting.

And raise the synth in the intro by 2 dbs. :)

Now, this mellotron thing is what? I don't know but I am little curious. :)

A Mellotron is the predecessor to the Sampler. They were huge and 400 pounds, they had a piece of tape for every note. They have a very unique sound, early Genesis used them a lot. They have a surreal string sound.
 
I dig it...the sweeping windy thing at the beginning is kind of harsh but its effective...the guitar tones are nice and powerful...and the drums sound great...samples?
nice change of pace in the middle!
This is really a cool piece!

Ok note to self, lower the sweeping wind in the beginning by a couple of dbs and that should take off the harshness.

The drums are FLStudio 4.0 and some soundfont I downloaded.

The guitar tones are from DigiTech products. One is RP200 (amp modeller, FX and expression pad) and the other is DigiTech Death Metal pedal I recently bought for $25.00 brand new.


OK so again while Brook Mays was going out of business this pedal was selling online from $49.00 to $79.00 with S&H included. And Brook Mays was selling it for $50.00 with 50% discount. So I figured it should be worth the money and it's been. :) Just thought I'd recount that story to all as well.

I like the synth sound and guitar melody in the intro, real cool. Nice wind effects too.
Drums and rhythm guitar sound real powerful.
Overall, real driving piece and well played. The only nit I'd presonally have is to maybe take the entire mix and drop the high end of the mix ever so slighty, especially in the sections with the leads.
Good track :cool:

Yeah the only time I thought it sounded a bit harsh on my system was when the lead was going, so maybe try adjusting the EQ on just the lead to finish off the piece. I agree though, the rest sounds real good, nice work.
I've been pretty busy lately and had to fix my speakers, I've still been jamming around though. Instead of finishing just one tune I've been working on like five tunes at the same time.. which just results in five far from finished tunes instead of one finished tune. Oh well :D :)
