My Very First Setup!

Hey guys. I just had a simple question about setting up my very first recording setup. I'm sure this will work, but I just wanted some feedback so I'm 100% sure.

This is what I plan on buying:

CAD GXL2400 condenser microphone
Behringer Xenyx 802 Mixer
XLR cable for the mic to mixer
RCA to 3.5mm from mixer to laptop

Any feedback will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
 
Get the Studio Projects B1, or the AT2020 instead of the CAD

I'll definitely look into your suggestions. So other than that, I'll be able to record no problem with the equipment I'm getting right?

There's the weak link in the chain. It will "work" but will limit the sound quality. Get a proper USB or Firewire interface that uses pro cabling and better electronics.

And what are you going to monitor through? You need to be able to hear what you are doing. Headphones (closed back) are good for tracking and checking certain stuff in you mix, but you need decent monitors. Computer speakers don't count as decent monitors.

Yeah I figured that the RCA cables wouldn't be as good quality. Thanks for the reassurance. I'll be sure to look into some USB interfaces as well. Any suggestions?

It's not the cable, it's the few cents of parts between your sound and your computer.
 
You could skip the mixer and just go with an interface that has built in preamps.
 
Yep. I would skip the mixer and go with an audio interface. It will be tons better than the soundcard in your laptop. Here's one. The Presonus Audiobox. It's more than the mixer, but you'll be a lot happier with it or something comparable.
