My UAD-1 dilemma: not a happy customer

Oh, sorry missed that. UAD-1's come with "Mix Essentials", which are:
1176SE (Still use this one all the time)
Pultec EQP-1A (Only used it once or twice a long time ago. Don't know if it's any good. I have the Pultec Pro which gets used once in a while)
RealVerb Pro (I think this is a reverb room sim. I only ever use the EMT-140 anymore.)
CS-1 suite (Typical channel strip)
Nigel suite (Guitar amp sim - I don't like it and it really hogs processing power)

I use the 1176, EMT140, Fairchild, Neve 88RS and Fatso Jr. on most every project. I have more but haven't incorporated them into my workflow yet.

Steaks YES, Jesus yes!! But you might have to buy a $150K microscope to get me up there. :( took the family to Longhorn's last night and the boy wolfed down a 12oz Ribeye. That's pretty good considering he only weighs a few ounces more than that!!! :D

Thanks man! And another :)

I doubt I will be purchasing a microscope any time soon, but let me know in advance if you are bringing the boy. I will need to buy more meat. :)

I used Nigel to make a very meaty organ sound. It works and doesn't really sound 'fake'. If you want that really distorted organ tone. My (female) singer in one of my bands referred to it as a very thick organ. She blushed.

Of the default UAD-1 stuff, the Pultec and 1176SE was all that I really ever used. I now have the Pro and 1176LN. The reverb I thought was terrible, and I've never been fan of channel strips since I didn't grow up with consoles and mixers so I'm not used to that workflow.

LOL! and thank you! :)

That's good to know about using Nigel on the organ (and the female singer story!!). I struggle to get a good organ sound for my tunes. I'm never quite happy with it. I'm going to have to try that.

I can't take the family on business trips. Though my son is asking me to teach him to ski. Hmmmmm... <thinking>

I have an extra room in the house now. The 19 year old is off to school. You are welcome to plan a venture with my home as a base. :)

I also sometimes run just the cabinet of Nigel for DI bass guitar stuff. Uses a lot less processing power than the full thing (which if I remember is 50% of a single UAD-1 card) and livens it up a bit.

The policy isn't dumb. How long can a company afford to support people who do not support them? From what I gathered from the initial post, he invested in this companies product a very long time ago and is going out of his way to not buy another thing from the company. Then he is unhappy that the company doesn't bend over backwards to make unsupported, outdated equipment work the way he thinks it should work, instead of the way it has always worked.
I would completely agree with him if he was having this same problem five years ago. But it is a little late now.

I disagree. And I'm not going out of my way, Farview. I just simply never had need for more of their plugins. I have, for the most part, been using the same collection of plugins for years now and they're just fine, imo. I would have never gotten the cards had I not bought my studio partner out but they came with the gear. Be that as it may, they are still MINE and I OWN those plugins.

The point is that they're SUPPOSED to work together. They are in the same hardware group. It's not a question of asking for something MORE from them. I simply want them to work as intended. I don't think that's too much to ask. UA have been throwing up a stonewall and I find them completely unhelpful.

Cheers :)

There has always been the loophole between the mackie cards and the uad ones. Not sure how they handled it in the past, but after all support has been suspended for this cards and after the trade in that was an attempt to wipe those cards off the face of the earth, you simply can't expect much help from them.

Part of the problem is that, since the version of the plugs you have are hard coded, it doesn't have any of the updates that the plug that will work on the other card does. That's why it was always a bit messy between the two versions of the cards.

Yup, except for the Mackie card. It's a special deal.

Well I found this on the UA FAQ site:

About UAD-1 “Mackie” card transfer of ownership:
The original UAD-1 PCI cards distributed by Mackie include the “Mix Essentials” bundle plus 1176LN and LA-2A. The included plug-ins always run on the Mackie cards because they are pre-programmed on the device itself. However, when transferring ownership of the Mackie card, the 1176LN and LA-2A licenses will ONLY be transferred to the new owner’s account if the seller elects to transfer "All" plug-ins registered to the group with the card.

So is this what happened to me? I don't understand how when we transferred the licenses the two plugins in question got lost. I also still don't get how if the plugins are hard-encoded to the card and I get to use them legitimately every day that I don't own them. It may be legal jargon but to me, it ain't right.

I'm pissed that Ford won't upgrade my '63 Falcon with the 120mph speedometer I have in my '76 E-150. Why won't they support the products they sell?

I saw that too. It seems weird. I have a feeling they didn't word that properly. Those two plugs are hard-coded on the Mackie card. Are you sure the plugs transferred from the previous owner to you? Or are you continuing to use them from his account?

Dude, your analogy is flawed. I am not asking for an upgrade. I am asking for them to WORK AS INTENDED.

Both cards are legitimately transferred to my account.

Cheers :)

The plugs that were "stock equipment" on the Mackie version are upgrades on the non-Mackie version. Why would buying the Mackie card give you the right to have the plugs on another card?
