My raw drum clip!

I think you have too much of the bottom snare mic mixed in.

This is one of my favorite songs ever, btw, it's nice to hear someone cover it!

I have to admit I initially thought it was midi. But the rest of the instruments sound just as good. You must be in a really good room.

Haha this thread is great! I love how people are saying you sound too accurate to be real drums. Take that as a compliment dude. People thought your drums were quantized afterall! I think the final mix sounds great, yet it could use a little more bottom. I'm failing to really hear the bass line clearly, and perhaps bring down the overheads a tad.

That's not at all what we were saying. I actually don't think he was "too accurate". The actual sound of the drums sounded fake to me.

Sound cool, the kick is a maybe a touch too loud in parts, but otherwise sounds awesome!

Regardless of what you were saying, here are some quotes from the thread:

"What I was trying to say is that that take sounds really quantized."

"Those snare triplets sound (TO ME) really quantized..."

"I say that because a snare fill/roll sounds completely different to a repeated sample snare and yours sounds like the sample snare."

"I agree that the snare roll does sound drum machine like though."

Quantization is the procedure of constraining something from a continuous set of values (such as the real numbers) to a discrete set

Clearly you and others thought the drums were fake because they sounded too consistent to be real drums. You thought that he couldn't get each hit to sound exactly like the last with real drums. This is what I read and I think it is pretty hilarious.

Sounding like a drum machine is not everybody"s cup of tea, but if you can sound like a drum machine, you are clearly a very accurate drummer.

Some of us were saying the snare drum had the machine gun sound of a drum machine or replaced drums. I believe that's what both me and pandamonk were referring to.

Nice job indeed.

Oh and yeah you play damn tight, being mistaken for a drum machine is awsome kudos:D

A couple of your quotes, "I say that because a snare fill/roll sounds completely different to a repeated sample snare and yours sounds like the sample snare." (which i think is actually mine) and "I agree that the snare roll does sound drum machine like though.", aren't necessarily talking about quantization.

Mine especially was quite clear about the sound of the drums being fake, not the accuracy. I was claiming that a snare roll does not simply sound like a repeated sampled snare, nothing to do with consistency and accuracy, and that this sounded like a repeated sampled snare.

I can't believe you are claiming to know what I thought more than me!

For the record, there were parts in the original clip which are definitely not accurate. This is why i claimed an electric drumkit, triggers, etc and not quantization, a drum machine, or whatever.
