yeah the kick is stuffed with a pretty big pillow. Perhaps i should take that out and put a thinner one in? mayb have it barely touching the batter?

Admittedly my skins are a little old but not dead. Im using remo emperor for batter and remo ambassador for reso. Perhaps tuning them a little tighter will liven them up?

i am pretty keen on using a spaced pare donkey, perhaps i should move them a little closer in? im not very good at balancing snare =[ not quite sure why. probably due to my less than ideal monitoring situation

Yeah smaller pillow, cushion or even towel would be better.
 
definitely using toontrack's samples - 99% sure it's superior 2.0

no way that's an actual acoustic set
 
Ok.. this is just getting fucking annoying now..

NO the track that i uploaded is NOT an e-kit. NO the track i uploaded is NOT triggered using ANY samples. YES the track i uploaded is a completely dry take of my ACOUSTIC KIT!!

Here is a new link, perhaps it is just in that section of the song that i originally uploaded that you might think the drums sound midi, This link includes that part but has been extended to include more of the song before that part too.

This is seriously the most absurd thing i've had to try and prove to some one before.. its so fucking frustrating because i KNOW that i recorded this myself on my ACOUSTIC kit! i mean what the fuck! im not trying to trick any one i just want advice on my fucking acoustic kit sound!!!!!!!

I think what the problem all around that detracted you from your OP is the low bitrate encoding of the mp3 itself. What bitrate did you encode it at? That may be why we're hearing a "digitized" sound and oddball accusations getting thrown around.

I personally use Lame MP3 encoder for this very reason-it doesn't induce as much digitized encoding noise at 128k as the file you uploaded.

It's 100% free if you don't already have it. Otherwise, try and reupload at a minimum bitrate of 192kbps for us to get a better gist of what's going on.

Even at 128k and lower, an acoustic kit will sound like an acoustic kit.
 
It's real. Listen about 2/4th of the way in, when he does a couple cymbals in a row, one of them is quieter. That doesn't happen in a drum machine.

Yeah you can easily do it with midi and velocity sensitive e-drums. But i do believe him now.

To me it´s not about the sound, but about the feel... -not talking specificly about this one- (and it´s true that changing sounds on an e-kit is as easy as it gets...)
 
SKIZ, take the fact that you're being accused of using samples as a compliment.:)

They sound real to me.

ive made a couple changes, like tweaking the overheads, and taking the pillow out my kick and instead adding a towel like pandamonk suggested. think it sounds much better, ill uploat a clip a bit later

ok cool, well i recorded another take of my kit after making the following adjustments:

took the pillow out of my kick and just used a towel (i think this has made most of the difference, thanks a lot pandamonk)

repositioned my snare mic

tried to tweak the overheads so that the snare and kick are sitting in the middle (not sure if i've quite gotten this right or not)

but yeah, here you go :

Sounds okay. Get some instruments around it to see how it really sounds..
 
After reading all of this and listening to the tracks I think anyone would agree that even though it is an acoustic kit it sounds artificial. I don't like the sound of the snare, the bass drum sounds like a block of cardboard (the sound you get with triggers) and the toms are aftertone deficient. The cymbals sound real enough, but I don't know if it's your mics or your setup causing the absence of ring. It's almost like you're playing a set of Wuhans at times.

Are you muzzling your kit with anything?
 
The snare sounds more centred now, but really different from the first snare. You also swapped the crashes around. Kick sounds good.

You won't know unless you've gone through like 10 batter/reso combinations. Don't give up on the birch yet.

Sounds more like a tuning problem to me.

Hmm i thought it might be because I'm at my cousin's and his speakers might be setup wrong, but I've just checked and they are right. Aw well. It sounds better now, just get some other instruments round it now.
 
just take it as a compliment that all these guys think your a machine. seriously put the perfect tempo thing on your resume. :)

Kit sounds great man.
