Hi! I'm Harry, guitar player of Thisturbio, a Brazilian Punk Rock band.

At October, we will play with Marky Ramone and Michale Graves, in the Two Wheels Brazil 2012.
So, We need some fine songs to distribute there...

Here's my attempt... for now, I'm using a Behringer Audio Interface, then Guitar Rig to simulate amps for Guitar and Bass, but maybe at this
weekend, I'll record the guitars with my Hughes & Kettner amp. The vocals are recorded with mics for live performance.

Gimme your opinion about my mixing, what it needs, what's good, and so on...

Thanks!

Guitars are a bit too grizzly and a tad thin although I know punk style goes for thin guitars.
Why use amp sims when you have your amp?

The drums should come up especially the kick, maybe bring down the Ohs a little.

Not a bad mix.

I thought this was pretty good. Just my opinion, but I liked the guitar sound. Good energy.

I thought the vocals were just a bit low in the mix.

I thought the bass was a bit indistinct. Not enough definition. Do you have reverb on it? sounded like it. I'd take that off. You might also want to make a small cut somewhere around 700hz-800hz and a small boost around 2500hz-3000hz. Play around with it. But I'd like to hear defined notes in the middle of the mix. And what I'm hearing is just a big mash.

Maybe bring the drum overheads up just a bit? Crash cymbals are a little swishy, but not horrible.

I'm using amps because I have no proper mic to record with my amp. I'll sell one of my pedal effects to my boss, then I'll buy a Behringer XM8500 mic. I've heard this mic is decent for live performances, and I think to record will be much better than use Guitar Rig.

I removed the reverb from bass, I'm masking the bass because the record quality is poor, there's a click on the bass. I'll record it when the vocalist bring me my bass.

Then, I'll post something new here..

and Thanks for the Help !!!

I wouldn't suggest getting that mic for recording anything really.
If you are looking for a budget mic then go for an sm57.

try the gls es 57 if you need it to be really cheap. Decent sounding mix. Can you overdub the bass?

why? and what about live performance? the XM8500 is good?

I'm downloading Superior Drummer 2, to make some triggering... I'm using Addictive Drums, but it's not satisfying my ears..
After reading some reviews on it, it seems like a good buy for the very low price. I wouldn't say it would be as good as an sm57 or sm58, it sounds a little sharp in the highs to me, which could cause problems when recording guitars.

The mix is pretty decent.
The guitar is a little thin, but it's not too bad.

The bass was pretty weak though. It sounded a little out of tune and it didn't have much punch at all.

yeah, I'm missing my bass !! :/
I'll tell you now: the bass was recorded playing my guitar through a pitch shifter :P
That's the problem!

tomorrow my band have a session at the studio, I'll try to record the bass. :P

And i'll try the Behringer mic... that's what I can buy for now !! :S

Here's my new attempt.. I reworked the kick drum, and backing vocals..

better than before?
Drums sound a bit more upfront now. Id suggest boosting the kick more, boost the high mids and cut the low mids on the kick for more punch so it cuts through the mix more.

Guitars sound better more meat in them! It's getting there, once the bass has been recorded could make all the difference along with a few tweaks.

new version...

I've reworked many things! I'm sending the fx processed kick and snare to a buss, to compress it... now, i'm giving bass more volume, that's the way I like in many punk bands, like some Exploited records!

The song is pretty rough, the way I want to get after mastering!

But, some more ideas would be great for me!

and... thanks to everyone again!

The kick has more slap now nice one on that. Snare sounds nice.
Bass needs more work, try compressing it more with an attack around 40ms release maybe 50ms.
Listen to the bass note at 46secs and you will hear it is too loud compared to the other notes, you may use compression on its own or maybe find the frequency of that note and make a thin small cut in the eq.
