Hey. I just got a Tascam Porta02 4-track recorder and I am having problems. The second track does not record making it impossible for me to record something on it and then play it on a regular stereo. Is there anyway to fix it or to play a cassette on the Porta02 and record it onto another cassette or anything? Please, I need help.

Sounds like a trip to the repair shop is in order.... naturally, track 2 is SUPPOSED to be fully-functional....

If its really not working then you should get it checked out as bruce suggested. If your new to the whole multi-track thing it can be confusing and your probably overlooking something simple. These things are pretty obvious so please don't be offended if your way above this lol, but I know i did some dumb things when i first got my 4 track 7-8 years ago.

-When you try and record on track 2 are you "arming" track 2 to record with the slider switch?
-make sure track 2's volume is up for playback.
-Tascams newer 4 tracks are sort of retarded. Make sure that you are plugged into the 2nd input when trying to use tracks 2 and 4. The 1st input only works for tracks 1 and 3 if I remember correctly.
-Are tracks 3 and 4 working for you?
-a 4 track tape will only play 2 tracks if you take it out and pop it into a regular tape player. I believe its 1 and 3 or 2 and 4 depending on which side your playing. You need to "mixdown" into a 2 track tape player or other 2 track unit via the tape outs to make a tape that is playable in a normal stereo. Alot of people don't realize this the first time around.

Maybe this will help?
