So, I chickened out on building my own computer. I knew it would cost me more but I went to my local computer guy who built our home computer. He was able to use a few parts from my dead computer. We saved the floppy drive, CD burner and DVD rom. Also used the M Audio 2496 sound card. I just picked up the computer yesterday.
Intel 945GNTLR Motherboard 800 bus speed
AXT Mid Tower Case
Pentium 4 3.4 gig
1 GB DDR2 memory
250 GB Seagate HD
10/100 Netcard
He included but I don't think I needed a 32bit sound card
MSI Videocard
Windows XP pro
Pc-cillin anti virus with 1 year service
Runs great out of the box. For Christmas I'm going to ask my wife to buy me 2GB of memory. Hope this lasts me a while. With labor and New Jersey tax the whole thingh cost me $880.
Thanks again for all the advice.

As everyone is entitled to an opinion my first reaction was Oh Shit..did I get ripped off?
I googled most of the parts in the computer to get an idea of cost. This is what I found for the parts listed..
Motherboard $144
Tower $67
Pentium 4 3.4 $179
1GB memory $125
HD $85
Windows XP pro $129
Now that comes out to $729. It does not include Netcard, soundcard, videocard, 1 year of anti virus and labor.
I respect your opinion but these are actual costs if I were to buy them.

Well a Dell dimension E510 is $649, has a D processor, and includes a 17" LCD so its not really my opinion. You got a bad deal

I did look at the Dell. Have a Dell for the kids. I'm not a big fan of Dell. (My wife has a Dell laptop for work that she likes) Anyway the E510 extras, XP pro add $149 and to up the HD to 250GB add $100 and the pc-cillin add $79. ( I have a Dell Catalog I'm looking at) So I guess it depends on the extras. I may be wrong but I think if you do anything like add the 2496 card it voids their warranty. May be just trying to justify my purchase. Thanks for your input.
