my new (used) "sure" mic

This is my new (used) "sure" ;) (that's how it was listed) mic which I got off the bay for $28:

I think it's a 545 Unidyne III. Anybody know if that's right, and if so, which version or have any experience with it? I've read some good posts on the various boards that it is a precursor to the 57 and has lots of similar uses.

Anybody know what the funky connector is?:

I've got two of these, I like them a whole lot actually. That looks like a Tuchel screw on connector, a lot of companies like shure (and "sure") used them in that wild era of non-standardization known as the 60s and 70s. It actually forms a better connection than a 1/4" cable in my opinion, but it's no XLR. That very well may be a high impedence (hi z) model at which point you need a heafty pre amp to push it. Personally, I like it better than an SM57. The high end is nicer (sometimes 57s can be a bit brittle) and the mids are a bit fatter without being too syrupy. You'll find many a use for it. Those old Shure mics with the obscure models are one of those last good deals. They certainly are better than about 97.3% of what is offered today.
 
I have one of those. The Pappy of the 57. I like it better than 57's.
 
The connector is "Amphenol."

I have a 545SD, with the body for stationary (not hand-held) mounting. My wife picked it up for $20 at an estate sale. It's an okay mic; use it wherever you might use an SM57. I'm not all that excited about it, but it's worth $20 for sure (shure).
 
I have a Geloso M69 that looks very much like that....four pin connection on the mic, 1/4" cord coming from the gooseneck mount/switch...never tried it out....hmmmm....
 
harp mic

Hi,

Paul Butterfield used a 545. It has good proximity effect and gives the harp a fat bottom. It is also an excellent vocal mic. I have one with an XLR connector.

At the prices mentioned quite a bargain. Used they regularly go for more than an SM57.

Another interesting mic in this family is the SM56. They usually go for around $200.
