Well this is what I got for $1,160 + $57 shipping, from www.xtechnology.com

Tell me what you think. Do you think I should have done things differently? Explain.

BTW, I will be running Cubase Sx and probably Logic also.

Looks good!

Personally I would have gone for Windows XP Pro and a 19" Flat screen as they are not much more

With what your getting you'll be able to handle lots of tracks and effects.

Good Stuff!

frank_1,

Almost have your same setup:

ASUS P4S533
P4 2.26 overclocked to 2.6MHz
512K RAM PC2700 333Mhz CL2.5 DDR SDRAM
Maxtor 5GB 5400 OS Drive
Maxtor 66/100 7200 20GB Audio Drive
Maxtor 133 7200 40GB Video Drive
Voodoo 4500 AGP
All the rest is about the same

This is a great setup. I have one song running 37 tracks multiple plug ins on almost half the tracks and no dropouts. 8.7Msec latency (I could go lower but I start to get dropouts.) We differ on software as I use Sonar. You did good though and built a killer box. You shouldn't run out of tracks or speed to run those soft synths anytime soon

i just ordered a laptop for my uncle from them
AMD Athlon XP 2200+
512Mb PC2700 - 333MHz DDR Memory
40GB NOTEBOOK HARD DRIVE
DeskNote AMD XP BareSystem w/DVD/CDRW
$1259 then add 230 for the Oxford 911 Firewire Drive for recording

can't beat that. thats a great price for a laptop... its gonna be used with a rme multiface and either nuendo/SX or logic

Why? There would be no significant benefits and would have cost him an additional $100.

Not trying to be critical - Looks like an excellent machine - but since you asked for critical feedback, here it is.

I'm not so into Maxtor HDs - I prefer seagate - I think they're more reliable. Also, the best price/size right now is 80GB. A 20GB is about $60 - $70, while an 80GB is about $100. You'll run short on disc space pretty quickly with that set-up.

Quality of RAM is also an issue. CAS2.0 Ram is the best. I've seen good RAM give a noticable performance boost. Corsair makes good RAM.

The only other thing, is you don't describe your case. A good case will be easier to work with, and more importantly, keep your PC cool and quiet. Aluminum cases are the best. Lian-Li makes good cases.

Power Supply is also important. A good power supply will make your PC more stable.

Ok. Thats for the input.

BTW, do you think Western Digital HardDrives are good? Better then Maxtor? I guess there not better then Seagate, right?

Not bad frank. Definitely enough power, speed and space for a good price. As long as it runs stable, there shouldn't be any problems as far as audio is concerned. Good luck and have a blast! :D

Try out timeworks ReverbX - it is a CPU hog, but your comp should handle it - best sounding reverb plugin out there.
