"The aim is to achieve an ear pleasing mix." What an epiphany!!! All this time I've been aiming at pleasing my elbows. I can't wait to get home and try this now that I know the secret. :p

No, that's Fresh and (wolf-whistle sound) Clean as a Whistle :D

Ah yes, I miss the '80s, when a man could don an Aran sweater and tweed cap, wolf-whistle at a red-haired beauty, followed by naked frolicking in a waterfall while dropping bars of green soap :D

It's pretty fucked up how the guy was just trying to help people out and some of u assholes immediately started trashing him.... lol

Tell me how he helped.

It really just looks like spam.

yeah whats this guy getting at?

better yet, who the hell does he think he is, coming here and throwing answers around for questions that dont have answers!

there is no trick to mixing. just do it and play it as it goes, kinda like a relationship with girl with tourettes...

Uhhhmm.....

I don't really dis his sound samples. They are OK. They could be better. They aren't the point.

Basically, his first post here he tells us to 1) listen to our mixes and 2) compare them to commercial mixes.

That's all fine if a bit obvious . . .

The last bit about heavy drapes being fine is not good advice. Small rooms + no bass absorption + bassy monitors =

What a bunch of bullshit. He wasn't trying to help anyone. And if he was, he failed miserably.
Let's all start 5000 word threads where we come off like blow-hard wind-bag know-it-alls and tell people the most obvious things about recording while claiming we have some sort of "SECRET". I'll say one thing, someone makes a post like that, his music BETTER sound top-notch, not just barely average.

What's even more fucked up is someone who knows nothing about audio engineering coming on here and blowing a lot of smoke about supposed "secrets" that in reality every assistant engineer learns about in their first three months of shagging coffee.

It's amazing how the Internet makes everybody with a keyboard and modem strut like a peacock when they haven't even earned their first feather.

Even more fucked up than that is the thinly veiled but still quite obvious attempt on his part to use such smoke as an attempt to sell his snake oil to unsuspecting newbs.

grandiosity bad

details good

Had he just said, "compare your mixes to commercial CDs of the same genre", and "check your mixes on both monitors and cans", he would have just gotten responses like, "Move this to the newbie forum", or "That's common knowledge dude". It was his arrogant first paragraph that's bad. If someone's going to get away with bragging, they should be bragging about real details like, "I just signed with label X", or "I've tracked and mixed for artists x, y, z,...", not "everybody tells me I sound great, so here's some advice". Sheesh.

Hey, plenty of forums around where people do this kind of pompous stuff all the time and get a line of newbies bowing in appreciation. Better though to call someone on it and keep this place as BS free as possible.

i liked the part where he said headphones give LESS bass response...

what a revelation!

Reverbs don't count because he could do that by accident.
It's like discovering penicilline... or blue cheese, yum :p !

Nothing impressive. No "secrets" at all.
By the way, has anybody seen Paul Gilbert's guitar "tricks" on his instructional video?

I bet you all feel like fucking assholes after reading that Stone Built Productions produces "Music to glorify God, Inspire unbelievers, and minister to followers of Christ".

What are you enemies of God or something?

:p

Well, that certainly explains his holier than though attitude.
