A song about cell phones. Please let me know your mix comments and suggestions.

See mix #2. I lowered the guitars a db. Raised the vox a db. Made numerous changes to the EQ on the bass. Bumped up the kick and snare by a db or two.

Sounds cool. Fun tune too.

For me, I thought the bass level kind of varied a bit. There were certain notes that popped out as being boomy and others that receded into the mix a bit. Maybe more or different compression there?

Also, I found the cymbals to be a bit loud and/or too accentuated in higher frequencies...not sure, but something just seemed a bit overdone there. Keep in mind I'm listening on little bookshelf speakers with a cheap sub, so not a clinical environment by any stretch.

My son and I both enjoyed the tune though. Cool bass line and nice melodies.

Hey did you take my box??? Give it back!!

Vocals are way too recessed, had to work to understand the words. Said another way, the backing guitars in the mix are too strong compared to the vocals.

Chorus is playful, and the premise of the song is unique.

Really like the harmony. Well done musically and mix wise.

Nice bridge take off. Pulled me right along on what was an interesting side journey.

Good build up in the song, and the final chorus run builds especially good. Hats off to whomever thought of that musically and whomever was flipping the knobs on the mix machine during that section of the song.

I like it, but I can't really make out the words. The bass and drums are not playing well together. The bass is boomy and the drums are smallish. I'd trade some bass presence for more kick and snare, or do better EQ work. The master bus compression and/or the drum compression is hammering the overheads into sounding glassy and kind of harsh. I like the guitars. They sound kind of raunchy and garage-ish, and I like that. Cool song, I think it just needs some tweaks.

heatmiser, rickidoo, and Greg - thanks for the help. I should get some time to work on this tonight. I'll bring down the guitars just a bit and give the vocals a boost (I don't usually make that mistake). I'll EQ the bass more agressively in the spots where it booms.

On the overheads sounding glassy. They sound that way (in sections) whether or not I have the limiters on the buss or not. The limiters don't help, and probably make it a bit worse. But mostly it's due to what's there on the tracks. It's like when he's riding one of the crash cymbals, it gets all swishy/glassy. Not much I can do. Unless anyone has any ideas.

I think if you brought the guitars down a hair the vocals would probably pop nicely. I can understand them though lol.... Well written and played man - very pop with an edge - kinda 60's meets 2011....

Thanks for the listen ido1957. I appreciate.

I put a new mix up that incorporated everyone's comments (except the cymbals - don't know what to do about that).

shit...i never knew you recorded...i just thought you just gave spot on criticisms :D

this has got such a new wave late 70s, early 80s vibe....i really like it

great tune...

mix wise sounds a little heavy in the mf's...could do with a cut in the whole track imo

but its great....i could be listening to the radio in 82 (fuck i hope thats the intention)

I think mix#2 sounds a lot better trip.

The vocals are more clearly understood now and the bass level is more consistant. I think the guitars were brought down some though and, if that is the case, I miss their prominence from the 1st mix...well done.

Yeah way better on mix2.

Wait, I know why I know your sound. Aren't you the dude that did that steve mcqueen song?

Sounds great, Triple. I only listened to Mix #2. I found the vocals during the verses a bit difficult to understand, but it's late now, so it very well may be my ears. I also think I'm hearing a bit of pumping in the mix with the kick drum. A bit too compressed in the drum section, perhaps? Maybe not.

Fun song, dude! I'll take a listen tomorrow to see if this comment was way off. Take care!

Yep -- Sort of like "The Archies" matured and got edge.

Terrific work, Trip. Your harmony work in the middle w/ those chord changes is exceptional.

Mix 2 is a wrap.

kace - thanks for checking it out. I'll listen for the mf buildup.

heat - thanks for coming back. I miss the guitar a bit too. But I also dont want it covering the vocal. I'll see if I can do a minor tweak and get the guitars up just a bit.

greg - thanks for the second listen. Yeah i did the Steve McQueen song. In fact i retracked the guitars and bass. I'm going to put it back up some time soon.

PI - I thought the vocals were pretty far on top of everything. Check it out again and see if you still think they're too far down.

Dub - thanks my friend. I'm glad you like it.

The cymbals definitely need to be brought back down in the mix. I would also bring the snare up a tad and maybe add a little mono small room reverb to give it more body. Kick drum feels like it's missing a good chunk of low end. I would try adding a 3db at and below 125hz.

Solid tune. Really enjoyed listening to it.

Thanks RobbieL.

I'll play around with the snare level and reverb. I'm sending it to the same verb as the vocal. I'll try upping that level just a bit and see what it sounds like. I have a pretty big boost on the kick almost an octave below 125 - it has a pretty strong low end. I might boost it a db or so to help out.

Hey heatmiser - I was able to give the guitars a little boost just above 200hz to fill them out a bit without covering the vocal. I'm glad you made your comment, because I never would have tried to do that otherwise.

shit, I miss listening to your tunes. You're like the 5th Ramone.

Listenned to mix 2, needs more bass.

Cool stuff.
