Hey im having issues with my fostex A8 its able to record and play for a little while but then after a short while it starts to struggle to spin the tape? can someone tell me whats going on?

the thing why i dont think its sticky shed is because. whenver i take a break from starting it up (sometimes it's an hour sometimes 30 min) and it spins like normal in playback and record

I don’t think the new tape would be sticky. You have a clean tape path?

Here’s a wild guess but who knows…..

Might need new belts? As the belts heat up they start slipping. After it cools down they work for a bit until they heat up again.
Belts do stretch out and heat has an effect on them. But, as I said, it’s a wild guess. A possibility rather than a probability.

When was the machine last serviced?

just a couple of weeks ago! you think it might be the tape alignment?

Don’t was just recently serviced, but what did that service include? When was the capstan belt last replaced or the pinch roller? When was the pinch roller pressure last checked? The other thing to consider is if there is a mechanical failure, such as one or more bad solder joints in the power drive circuits for the reel motors or the capstan. They could heat up during operation increasing the resistance in the circuit and decreasing power to the reel motors or capstan. It may be worth verifying the motors are getting the power they should be getting during various transport operation states when the transport is failing to narrow down what’s working and what’s not working, but I’d start by considering what’s been suggested as mechanical things to check with the transport; belts, pinch roller, pinch roller pressure, etc.
