My first submission...

Thanks for the reply!

No problem about the whole thread thing. ;) I did notice that it had been sorta hijacked, but that's ok. I almost even said something at one point, just because the majority of the posts were beginning to be about the whole super critic thing, and nothing about the submission. hehe.

I've been watching all of the proceedings, and have just found that I would say nothing to any of it. If he, or anybody else, had flamed my song, I wouldn't even have replied to it, because to me, it just doesn't matter. I'm able to separate the wheat from the chaff, and like on all boards everywhere, the only thing that keeps them going is the responses, so I just leave that stuff alone. I posted about something similar to that one time on this BBS, and then realized that it just wasn't worth it. ;)

At any rate, thanks for the reply. My wife's favorite parts of the songs are the b/g vox, and it's probably more because I've never put b/g's into a song before. hehe. I like the overall feel of what it is, too, and I'm glad that I've gotten such good critiques from everybody here about what I can do to improve the parts of the song that need improving. I've already changed the way that I play, and it's working wonderfully, thanks to none other than a super critic's suggestion about the way I attack the strings. Everybody elses suggestions are working out great, too, and after a bit more experimenting, I'm hoping to re-record this song soon, and post the new results and see what you all think!

Although, my wife's due date is TOMORROW, (is this baby ever going to get here?!?!?!,) so it might be put off for a while so I can take a couple weeks off of work and help out. ;)

Thanks again to all!

Re-tracking is finally going to happen soon!!

News update for everyone...

My wife gave birth to a GORGEOUS baby girl!!

Livia Raine

8 lbs 9 oz.

19.5 in.

She's the cutest thing ever. And, she's a far greater production than I'll ever make with musical equipment, no matter how much help I get from everyone on this site. ;)

It's been a couple weeks, and we're into our new place, so hopefully I'm going to be able to set up my stuff, and try a re-track of this song using new techniques from everyone here. Once it happens, I'll re-post, and hopefully it will be BETTER, and not worse. hehe.

Thanks again for all the help everyone. I'm excited about being able to put it to use soon.

HEADROOM for VOCAL

I hear some hiss.

The guitar is not the lead instrument, I'm having to struggle to understand and even sometimes hear your lyric.

YOU are the lead instrument, and you have a nice voice, let's hear it please.

The guitar need some of that good old industry standard delay.

And ... you must use an electronic tuner, the guitar is a bit out of tune, putting a little chorus on it will do wonders, but just a touch, or else it will be much worse.

The best musicians, performers and mixers on this board tune with an electronic tuner.

Yes, this guitar part is simply 'there', and that's fine, but mix it way back.

At 1:57, when you bring in the harmony vocals, harmony vocals are GOLD, they MUST be mixed louder, and from what I can barely hear of them, they are good, don't cheat me.

Now, that does not necessarily mean to bring the vocal fader UP ... it means to bring the guitar fader DOWN in most cases.

'CREATE HEADROOM' for the vocal, you can master in more overall volume later in most cases.

Especially if I'm hearing hiss, that means you are probably out of headroom and are pushing your signal to get it hotter. Bring the instruments DOWN, to create more headroom for the vocal, especially the harmony vocals.

You and me, and everyone else deserve to hear the lead in this song, the vocal, your vocal, and especially the harmony vocal.

And of course you want to let that last note ring for as long as you can hold it, until you feel foolish holding your hand clampled on the guitar when you rationally know ... there is probably no more sound coming out ... but the last note of the song is the last impression we get, so give us a good one that fades away nicely, let us down easy.

Even if you 'stab' and then muffle the last chord, it still rings in the body of the guitar for quite a lot longer than most folks will believe.

Great effort, and it's a nice song, sung with heart.

Correction, I used a slight chorus effect on the back ups, not a delay. I don't know why it took so long to update this. Sorry for the confusion.
