I got this:
http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/FireWireSolo.html

Plus one of these:
http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/...ar-Combo-Amp?sku=481601&src=3WWRWXGB&ZYXSEM=0

I already had this Sony:
http://photos.pcpro.co.uk/blogs/wp-content/uploads/2008/07/vaio-z-series-design2.jpg

and an Ibanez guitar.

I am trying to record my guitar on my computer using Adobe Audition (ex-cool edit pro). I followed these steps (http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=support.faq&ID=ad3efc878211060bd346977e13f98c8e) and it worked; I could see the waves of my guitar being recorded. I then tried playing the tracks and could not hear anything. Because the steps suggested by m-audio will "get rid" of the computer sound in Adobe Audition.

In my mind this should happen:
1 - I would set Adobe Audition to record only my guitar (specif track)
2 - Then, after pressing the recording button the other tracks would play so I knew what the hell I am doing.
3 - The sound of my guitar would come out off my amp.

I am almost sure I am doing something wrong in Adobe Audition. Does anybody knows how to set this thing up so I can torment people's ears with my music.

Thanks
:laughings:

Hey my first recording sucked too !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

mines was awesome.....

in many programmes theres a button for monitoring that must be activated to hear what youre playing or recording...I dont know if its the same in Audition...if you're seeing waves it will be something simple like that...sorry I cant help more :o

Sorry, not familiar with adobe audition....but at least you know that your first recording sucks. I remember thinking mine was awesome at the time.:D

ive never let anyone hear it and have kept it in a box to be discovered upon my death in 2046

2046...Is that the expiration date on your birth certificate ?

We aren't to see pass 2012

If it's any consolation, my first couple of hundred recordings sucked, in fact many of them still do, but I'm still trying. Don't give up, just learn from your mistakes, take my word for it, there are plenty to be made.

Thanks. I will keep on trying.

I know no ones helping with the Audition problem...but here's the best piece if advice I ever had

give yourself loads of headroom when recording and mixing...I record and mix at around -14db peaks but I've read -18 or even -20db is roughly where you should be looking at...it makes a difference in quality and makes mixing a damn sight easier

loudness (not volume) comes during the mastering stage..

Very important question... are your monitors/headphones plugged into the Firewire Solo, not your laptop? :p

Do u record using software? What software do u use for recording?

The headphones are plugged into the firewire solo. I can hear the guitar there if I plug the guitar straight on it (not coming from the amp).

What mic 'ya using on the amp then?

If its a condenser, checked phantom power is on?

Got your preamp gained correctly?

No mic on the amp.

The other questions are a little out off my scope to answer right now. I am just a beginner. I will research about that. Thank you.

i think my first recording was led zeppelin dubbed off the radio to cassette... it was AWESOME!
