Fed don't critisise his voice too much or we'll never hear him sing again ! ;) Like I said before it's just the very ends of some words that fade off in volume.. that's why some words are hard to hear. Everything else is fine.
oh... well then that's normal.. I always trail off in volume.. even when I talk. :p

When I said strained I ment intonation wise not the quality of the voice... the tone of the voice is very subjective thing that some will like and some don't and anywhere in between ...

WATYF you can sing in pitch and that's what important ...

Bummer with the finger... did you hit it with a stick... that really hurts.. I know. So you can't play guitar, what about drums ? I'm keen to hear you play if it's your first instrument and you consider guitar and singing to be secondary !!

I know you don't have a setup for recording drums properly... but you seem to be a resourceful guy so I'm sure you can come up with something ;)

As for your voice, for God's Sake (and I mean that) don't stop singing... never mind how you feel about it... heaps of people enjoyed it, so I figure you have an obligation ;)

I'm listening to "better" for the second time and feel compelled to echo everything you've already heard.

The doubled guitars enter very sweet and sedated.

You said it reminds you of another tune. The only thing that I hear is part of the chord change has a, Smith's "Please, please let me get what I want" feel to it but even that is minimal and I'm SURE you weren't thinking that when it was composed!

I'm listening to this Tuesday at 9:30pm so I don't know what re-mix you're on but the vocals sit fine with me.... Then again, you've heard my amateur mixing ears at work so take that for what it's worth. :D
The vocals are pretty wavery, like Guernica said. not bad. Stylistic choice but all I'm saying is I noticed the performance was heavy on vibrato. Hell, it worked for Jeff Buckley...

All in all, as mayor of Kickassville, I declare this song to be awesome.

dres.. PM me for a link to a recording of me playing drums...

and I didn't hit it... (haven't done that in a while..) it's just that I hit my snare so hard that sometimes I'll bruise the knuckle on my index finger (from the inside) just from the repeated impacts... kinda sucks... :p

WATYF

it is... :p

you should hear the complaints I get aboot how hard I hit my cymbals... :p

needless to say, the sound guys hate me...

WATYF

I've tried to mix people like you before :( ... Cause I play an electric kit the sound guys thing I'm wonderful... since I play with headphones to supplement my own level (foldback NEVER works) I'm happy too.

Have you got cracks in your crash cymbal ? That always impresses me ;)

I've busted more cymbals than drum heads... ;)

a hi-hat, a couples crashes, a frightenly large number of splashes, etc. etc. :p (you'll hear why in that mp3 I sent you the link for... basically I just never stop hitting my cymbals.. :D it helps cover up mistakes... :p)

now sticks... dang.. I go through two a night... (on a slow day :p )

I used to be stuck on an electric set. (churches are big on those). I feel sorry for you... :p I really did hate it. Most of my style is based on ghost notes and light rolls and what not, which are basically impossible to do on an elec. kit. Plus, those drum sounds are never real enough.. no matter what anyone says.. :p

WATYF

It's true the electric kits do have problems but fortunately I've never played on anything else so I don't know any better. Actually the mesh headed electric drums from Roland are light years better than the old rubber ones... unfortunately I only have one for snare. I'm not a hard core drummer by any means and I've only brocken 1 stick in 5 years !! The rubber is kind.

2 sticks a night !! That's quite an expensive habit to support ! ;)

Not really.. the youth group buys me Vic Firths in bulk. :D

WATYF

I'd like to hear some drumming also, being drums are my primary. Two sticks a night, it does suck. What kind of sticks do you use WATYF? Never heard of bruising your finger that way. ouch... Hitting your knuckle on a rim damn sure hurts too... hehe.. Anyway... I just had to get into the drum discussion  All drummers here should post a drum solo or summin. That would be fun. :)

Dude....

Im gonna say this one more time and hope it sinks in.

I listen to your music INCLUDING your singin..MORE than anything else I have ever downloaded. The songs would not be the same with anyone else singing because you have a very very distinct voice. Please record YOUR stuff with YOU singing it an noone else.

'Everyday' is the (IMO) the best song Ive heard on here...I love it, My fiancee loves it, My best mate loves it.....

If I lived near you I would come and sing in your band...but not the songs that suited your voice as I could not do them justice.

I try to sing along to your songs in the car, and cant.....

You CAN sing.

You have that 'something' that makes ur voice stand out....it fits the music....its catches ur ear, and makes u want to hear more.....

For the love of god man....please stop putting ur voice down.

Nick.

btw. the vocals are still too low.....this is a common thing. 99% of the threads on here say turn the vocals up....this is because MOST singers honestly do not rate their own voices...me included....thats why we always turn it down in the mix....cus we want people to listen to the music.............

er...

uh...

ok.. fine. :p

I guess I'll just never understand it.. I dunno.

I understand what you're saying about people turning their own vocals down... but that's really not what I'm doing.. I just listened to Better again on my brother's system (which has decent PC speakers) and the vocals were all I could hear with the volume at low levels.. if I turn it up, the vocals get too loud before you can even get the gits at decent levels... maybe my compression sucks or something (which I wouldn't doubt,.. I am using a free plugin for compression after all) I dunno.. I'm just still kinda befuddled aboot the whole "turn the vocals up" thing... :p

sp.. I use Vic Firth 5A Extremes... they're the same diameter as a 5A, but they have aboot an inch more length.. that gives 'em a bit more weight and reach for a harder attack... I quite like em.
